Worked out a mount for the TrailTech Vapor. Now if I can figure out why it cuts out when the engine runs I’ll be set. That’s with it connected to nothing but the CHT leads. The ignition recommends non resistive plugs but the gauge obviously wants resistive plugs so I’ll try some shielded leads first. Got a trip to the hardware store in. This bike gets more looks then a $2 whore in the daylight. Everyone turns to look at it. pandora net worth

It took some effort during the lockdown to get the registration completed but it’s done. Finally road legal, well minus the emissions... Get the Vapor wired in, swapped to resistive plugs and that cleared up the issue with the gauges cutting out. Took it for a quick rip to calibrate the speedo and I got it darn close the first try. I had an issue with it breaking up at higher rpm’s with and without the resistive plugs. Might just be temperature related as it doesn’t do it as much on warmer days. I want to get this running well and don’t want to chase my tail with carbs so I ordered a replacement set. They had some corrosion that was repaired some time ago with epoxy so best just to start fresh. Here is a little video you can clearly hear it.

That's sweet! Sounds awesome! What size carbs are you going to run on it?

Still the original Mikuni VM28’s, 28mm obviously. They are good carbs for the RD engines and are priced fair for OEM Mikuni, made in Japan parts.

Drove down to my shop on my day off to get my inspection done. All went well on the way down. Ran fine when I left but died 1/4 mile down the road as if I forgot to turn fuel on, nope. It made to attempt to restart so I walked it back. I had a issue early on with the original plug for the ignition so that’s where I went. Cut the plug out and just used butt connections for the trip home. Fired up after that. I think I’ll be soldering that connection. Looks like it’s had a poor connection as the terminal is burnt. Runs amazing now and gets on the pipe with no issues now. The one carb still has an issue so I’ll have my replacements soon enough and swap them out.

Well I finally got both carbs and jets. Originally only received one carb so had to wait again for the other to arrive. Swapped them out and bench synced them up. They were a pain to get the mixture and idle initially set due to the location of mixture and idle adjustments. Currently 35/185 with a drilled air jet, different needle and modified needle jet. The cylinders used to be about 30 deg apart CHT but now are within 6 deg of each other. Part throttle cruise and off the pipe is around 280-300, on the pipe continually and getting aggressive with it it’s around 320-350. Might just up the main one size. It surely is a fun bike to ride, might not be the fastest but it makes a lot of smiles... and probably hearing damage in due time. I started to wear ear plugs when I take it out.

Are you still on stock bores? Those chambers look like they would support some some aggressive port timings.

As far as I’m aware they are original 250 bores with boyseen ports. I never opened it up so I don’t have any port timing or squish info. They may support more but if I know John they were purpose built. I really need to look at gearing. It moves out good but I think there could be more, or maybe I’m hesitant to rev it out.

Hesitant due to jetting or noise for the neighbors?

What kind of revs have you been riding at?

The pipe starts coming on at 62-6500 rpm, I try to shift at 75-7800 but if your not quick she’ll get some rpm quick. I’ve tried finding the safe max rpm for the RD motors but couldn’t find anything consistent. Cruise speed is usually 45-5500rpm, depending on speed. Just like any piped 2T it needs to rev to move.

Hesitant due to jetting or noise for the neighbors? Just unsure of the safe max rpm for the ol girl. I could careless what the neighbors think. I’ve got a few that like it.

I see John has liked comments below this so maybe he'll see this and correct me if he missed it. If it is supposed to be top secret, then oops. lol I seem to recall John saying that the cylinders were cut. I guess the bases. Or maybe it was gaskets. It's been a bit now. Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, he said they turned out so well with the piston crown at the port floors and good port timing that he said it should have been that way from the factory. I was thinking he said it turned out at 190/130, but I may just have that number stuck in my head as I'd think that's a lot for an engine of that era turning the RPM you mentioned. Not sure if it was ported for that or ended up there. Knowing me, this is all wrong and it was something else that he was talking about at the time. I thought he said both the 250s and 350s worked well with a similar setup though.

What’s everyone’s preference on camera angles.. helmet forward, bike mounted forward, bike mounted rear.. I personally like bike mounted as it shows lean angles and kind of like the rear facing also; well the past makes your future..right?

The 350 cylinders could fit on the bottom end only issue is the smaller inner transfer duct size. Looking at gauges of the era they red line at 7.5-8.5 so I may be playing it safe. I’m not going to mention what the max recall on the vapor is. It’ll get away if your not quick. I just fell like she’s crying for help if I’m cruising along above 6k. I’ll have to get on 2SW and see what I find.
