Looking forward to the 250 running again. I haven’t had the pleasure of being around multi-cylinder 2Ts much at all. I enjoyed listening to it cackle at low throttle and idle quite a bit. It’s not making big power, but damn it’s pleasant to listen to…. well… for two-stroke folks like us anyway. From watching the swarms of tourists in TN near it’s little brother, I don’t think the sound is for everyone. 🤣

I find it pleasant to the ears which is why I ride this more than the others and I get a fair amount of questions at lights about it. After I get it back together I’ll bring it down for a proper ride. I probably won’t touch it this weekend but should be done some time next week.

Hey Ryan I had An early 250 ninja with the late wheels. I used a Suzuki sv650 rear shock. Worked great and the bike handles great until it was stolen. That shock is a nice upgrade and cheep used

You may have to pull it back apart. I think they sent you Honda pistons. The Yamaha ones should be blue.

It is an easy engine to work on but I’d rather not split it again any time soon. I’ll deal with the Honda pistons.

What is the silver cross over pipe between the 2 reedblocks. I don't recall having that on mine.

That is a cross over tube, supposedly Yamahas idea to clean up the mid range. It didn’t come on the RD’s but was OEM on the later RZ and banshee motors. The intakes and tube are OEM parts that are still available and figured a better option than the aftermarket intakes I had that cracked after only a year.

I have an old 250EX that has sat under a cover in my parking spot for over 2 years. This gives me a lot of ideas lol

I wrapped up a RD350 Cafe build about a year ago that I fabbed a monoshock multi link on to and an SV650 front end conversion on. Parts had been a challenge for performance but it came out quite clean after tidying the sunframe up and a tank Rework. Now I want to pull my YSR-50 out and start messing with it and don't get me started on my water buffalo (3 cylinder two stroke 750) engine married to a 2001 Kawasaki ZX6R project that has been going for a number of years...

Water Buffaloes are cool (sorry 'bout that). Can't say that I would ever want to repair a liquid lead with cyl. stud corrosion again. Almost 50 years ago and still frustrating, although itt worked out.
