Any computer Guru's out there ? I've been doing tons of looking at computers parts , hardware , cases , MOBO's the whole nine yards to do a 1st time build of my own . Maybe I'm overthinking it but man it's tough trying to figure out - first off a good choice of mobo to go with a Ryzen 5 cpu . can't decide if I should go with a B450 mobo or a x570 mobo. I've been using website PC compatibility builders etc . but there's so many things to consider. all helpful ideas /guidance/discussion welcome

I've built my own PCs the last couple of times. Not at all a guru. I just do a lot of research when it's time to build. Lots of YouTube reviews, comparing benchmarks, reading consumer and pro reviews, comparisons, etc... I think you have to unless you have deep pockets or keep up to date on PC stuff all of the time.
My current PC that was done this year is a Ryzen 9 3900X with an X570E mobo. I've been very pleased with it. I went with the 570 because I wanted to support for PCIe 4.0. That can be good for the fastest drives and future proofing. My last PC worked for me for 10 years, and that's with heavy video and photo editing use, so I wanted to get the latest mobo for this one in case it's of some use in the future as well. I think if you don't care about PCIe 4 or SLI, then a 450 will be fine. This is just from what I can recall from all of the reading I did earlier this year though, and again I'm not an expert.
BTW, Noctua coolers work quite well... if you happen to be checking out options there. I had a Noctua on my last build and it had 10 trouble free years. That made me consider it again. People said the 3900X runs hot so I got the biggest Noctua for it (have to have a big case too) and it hums along quietly and keeps temp in check quite well.

Hey, how are ya. Holy cow man, 3900x !! whew . all I know about SLI is , I think that's when you have 2 or more G cards . well I've been doin exactly what you did; been researching , exploring all over the place, trying to learn and figure it all out. I make some progress and choose a cpu and mobo , then read somewhere and somebody says something negative about my choice and I start doubting it and look some more . I started out with a ryzen 5 , then ryzen 7 ; a prime B450 plus then something else, then something else and so on and so on . right now I'm looking at a ryzen 3300x which I think just came out this past couple of weeks ??can't find them yet. here's what I have at the moment. AMD Ryzen 3 3300X 3.8 GHz Quad-Core Processor www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-ryzen-3-3300x-benchmarks-vs-intelshould be around $99.00 MSI X570-A PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard $164.99 G.Skill Trident Z Neo 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory $104.99 gotta find something cheaper than this card ; probably overkill for the other components too. MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB GAMING Video Card $309.99 EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply $109.99 I already bought this monitor a while back . MSI Optix G32C4 31.5" 1920x1080 165 Hz Monitor $259.99 pcpartpicker.com/user/PCloipart/saved/kMtdD3after reading this I'm more confused than ever about graphics cards. www.techpowerup.com/review/evga-geforce-gtx-1650-super-sc-ultra/but I didn't finish the article.I'll go back and read it slower and finish it . I swear my head was spinning after the 1st 2 paragraphs .

I make some progress and choose a cpu and mobo , then read somewhere and somebody says something negative about my choice and I start doubting it and look some more . Same here. Did that for a while with mobos. One tells you this one is great. Another says this one is the best at this price. Another doesn't like either of those. I basically came to getting one from a brand that I trust (ASUS... again my last build was an ASUS mobo and it went together well, seemed well made, and didn't hiccup for 10 years) that was well reviewed in multiple spots, met my budget, and had any features that I wanted. I started out with a ryzen 5 , then ryzen 7 ; a prime B450 plus then something else, then something else and so on and so on . right now I'm looking at a ryzen 3300x which I think just came out this past couple of weeks ??can't find them yet. here's what I have at the moment. If you don't already, maybe sign up for NewEgg emails. They are always having something on sale. Lots of Ryzen deals show up. The 3300X sounds good at a great price, but you can always keep an eye out for deals since you aren't set on 1 processor for sure. Of course you always have to figure what you want. My primary concern was video editing, so processor power trumps all. I also look at the mobo and CPU as the base. That's what I want to keep for a long time. I can replace a card quickly. If you want to play games, saving on a processor and spending more on a GPU may make more sense. Again, watch for deals. Fast stuff is expensive. I wanted something around a 1660Ti, but haven't bought yet for that reason. For me, the simple helper for checking GPUs is to look over a benchmark site and compare price vs performance to see how fast I'm willing to spend. www.videocardbenchmark.net/

I may have missed it, but what are you going to be using the computer for?

that's a good idea Brent about NewEgg price watching etc. . I'ma do that today . maybe some other sites too .
my first PC was a Asus laptop circa 2012 Originally I was all for Asus and fine with that; I had the idea they were in the lead with mobo's then I read something saying they were some bad reports and whatever, blah ,blah, . so that created doubts; really been doing a lot of research/reading ; anyway , since already have a MSI monitor maybe makes sense for better compatibility for a MSI mobo -don't know , but I suspect that's faulty assumption since hardware and specs are about physics and science , math etc . . just wishful thinking on my part . anyway at the moment I'm ok with MSI X570 , it's more for what I want , than what I need .
I appreciate the dialog and all the ideas ; it really helps .

what really screws with my head is when I read an article - seems really good, informative etc. , so then I price check on Ama , or new egg and then read reviews - that's when things get dicey - you have to figure out ; well some people are just complainin; some are tech challenged - like me- some are freakin genius' ; those are the ones I really like , where they're talking about the die size on a chip and stuff like that and voltages and related. I don't know that stuff but reading what they're sayin can still help make choices . It's a lot like when I read you guys here - after a while I get to follow what yer sayin even if I don't totally know about it . eventually I've learned a lot - in general .

So , Brent; I meant to ask you . what case did you get and which model Noctua - so I can scale down from your cooler to one that's reasonable for my build . I'm not at all into ANY rgb lighting . I got into the habit recently of turning the PC off when I go to bed and unplugging it . it was running up electric bill.

My mobo has RGB, but I just turn it all off now. Just a program. It was kinda neat to see at first, since my old PC never had any. If I turn it on now, I use the temp monitor setting so the lights all change from green to yellow to red depending on CPU temp. If you find something that has RGB and like it otherwise, just find out if it can be turned off or changed. This is the case that I used. Very high quality. Probably overkill and overpriced, but I really like it. As you said, I get to a point that I want what I want. I dropped the glass side in the floor as soon as I got it. Expected it to shatter, because I read reviews on other cases about that. Not a scratch. www.newegg.com/black-phanteks-eclipse-p600s-atx-mid-tower/p/N82E16811854083?Item=N82E16811854083This is the cooler that I used. amzn.to/2STgnR9

Ha! wow. that's great it didn't shatter. yeah , the monitor has some red rgb lights on the back but they're not intrusive . I haven't touched 1 single setting since I got it ; half afraid I'll screw something up. doh! to me , with no adjustments it's just fine . if there could be some other better aspect or setting ,I don't know. now that I think about it I might you tube it . UH OH .
thanks for the links .

So far I've only been looking at ATX's; I think I'll explore the next smaller mini ATX? I was just thinking big is good but think I want to be a little more open to smaller too .
Gawd, that Noctua is a beast . cool. no pun intended.

pcpartpicker.com/ is a good site to help you find parts to build a system. With that being said PC parts are hard to find right now due to rona. Also what is your budget?
