Some stuff I ordered shipped in so I got this build moving today. The boring bar I ordered for the lathe arrived, so I finished the adaptor that is needed to make the Kymco ZX front end work with the Elite frames steering tube. I cheated on making the adaptor because I modified some kind of adaptor Ryan sent me last year. All I had to do is turn a flange off of it and open up the ID on one end of it to fit the OD of the frame steering tube. Thanks Ryan!
All I have left to do there is braze or weld it in place, and add a piece to the bottom of the steering stop so it will make contact with the forks.
Next up I bolted up the spare ZX handlebars that I had previously cut the bracket off of. I turned the bracket 180° from the way it came from the factory so the bars would end up closer to the rider. A couple tack welds on the bars currently hold it to the bracket for mockup. The radiators also came so I played with their placement in several locations. I think I have found the general place they are going, but likely a tad lower than pictured.
The stock shock mount will be relocated closer to the frame on the other side of the shock after I remove the gusset that is currently there. Another shock mount will be added on the other side of the frame so I can have a dual shock setup. The dual shock setup is made possible after I discovered that a GY6 150 long axle would fit correctly in the Kymco ZX gearbox after making some minor modifications to the axel. Coming up with a torsion bar that will work has yet to be worked out. If I am lucky I can somehow adapt a torsion bar from some other scooter to work with my setup, otherwise I'll have to fab something up. A lot of my plans hinge on having the dual shock setup worked out.
I was able to get a set of Kymco ZX wheels that LOOK to be in great shape at a great price from feebay. They should get here this week, and will hopefully end up at the powder coaters by Friday. I haven't decided what color to have them done in yet. I really like the fluorescent Yellow 90GTVert used on his wheels. I am thinking about going with fluorescent Orange or International Orange, I want something that pops for the wheels because everything else is going to be some version of black.
