Cardboard patterns are the go-to as no sheet metal and time are wasted making a failure..Keep up the good work, you'll find that sweet spot for your fuel tank!!

I really like the stance and fabwork. I can’t wait to see more!

I made good progress over the last couple of days. The handlebars and the foot rest are just tack welded in place. The radiators and the front support for the seat are bolted up,but still are easy to move around as needed. I have yet to fully work out the rear seat mount that will have to be fabricated in a way that also serves to tie the left and right frame tubes back together. The pipe in the picture may or may not ever end up on this scoot, its just showing there is room for a pipe to go through there. I still don't really like the gas tank in its current configuration. I am going to see if thinning the width of the tank a bit and cutting some of the edging away around the perimeter will make it look better. Maybe I need some round fuel tanks like Brent's moped project.

Cut the width of the tank down about 2" and cut the edge to use mounting tabs. I think it is looking a bit better now.

That looks more in proportion.

Now that I have the front of the seat secure I placed some temporary blocking between the frame and the rear of the seat so I could test the rear suspension. I was hoping to get away with using the single Kymco shocks twinned, but they are terribly stiff. I searched all evening for a proper pair of 270mm shocks with a small diameter and the correct mounting points. I must have looked a couple hundred shocks. The only twin set I could find close to being short enough are for a Honda PCX 125. I have a used set on the way from Feebay. They are longer, but I am hoping the scoot will sag to the proper height with my weight on them. I also ordered some headlights I have always wanted to try a set of these. They are projector style originally for a Sachs MadAss. I also figured out a rear seat mount that looks pretty good, I am searching for some mandrel bent pipe to make the mounts with.

That's a good price for the lights. I have a set from a speed fight 4 in the shed. They are about $100 a single unit. I have both. They look complicated to wire up though. Look at them every so often. Then put them back! 😂

I'm guessing seat is going to be modified/lowered, because of the extra height?

I'm guessing seat is going to be modified/lowered, because of the extra height? I think the seat is in its final location. With the old shocks mounted, when I sat on the scoot there was very little movement of the shocks because they were so stiff. With the new shocks fitted, there is a fair amount of movement. It actually sags to about the ride height of where the stiffer shocks were. I can stand flat footed when sitting on the seat.

Think the 'air space' under the seat is reserved for a big arse over the top expansion chamber! That way the 2stroke smoke blows directly on the cagers cars!!Ha-Ha!!

I was going to make my own filler neck and cap for my SSR's tank, but my lathe decided to pop out of gear when I tried to thread and I just bought one. Given the prices of aluminum weld on filler necks and the time it takes to make a cap and neck, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to make one unless you want to do it so it's 100% custom made or to spend more time with the lathe.
