I guess I have gotten the bug. I have an ad posted in the local CL looking for a scooter project. Seems a lot of people have these kicking around that do not run. I had someone give me a Honda Spree. I had spent the gas to go look at it so threw it in the truck. It is beat but looks to have a number of good parts I can use.
I am assuming the Peace scooter is from China so I know to expect a cheaply made scooter. The engine is a clone of what? Anyone own one? What should I look for?
I really wanted to get a Mina clone but for $200 and it doesn't run well I can always sell it and make a buck if nothing else.

So maybe with some mods I can swap in a 150?

The 50 and 150 use different engine mounts so you'd have to deal with that and you might have to do some rewiring.

Yeah sounds pretty easy! Of course I would bet doing 60 on a scooter designed to go 30 would be scary!

Once you do it a bit, 60 on one of these things doesn't feel fast enough. That's what gets us and/or our wallets in trouble.

Well I am a bit of a cheapskate and like the sleeper. I think I may have a line on a 150 GY6 that I can swap some labor for.

Well, I picked this thing up tonight didn't get home until after 8. It turns over and has compression. Pulled the seat bucket it is getting fuel to the carb the plug is dry and it has spark. Opened up the tank. The gas smells like gas and pretty clean except for one chunk of something I could see floating around. It was really too dark but tomorrow I am going to try hitting it with a little starting fluid and see if she goes. He said he never could get it running right so maybe there is some dirt in the carb. It does have the original fuel lines on it. Do these lines deteriorate on the inside so that rubber gets into the carb?
It has a couple of broken plastics but all in all I am pretty happy for $200... I will put up some photos tomorrow.

Could be debris from a fuel line. The stock lines and filter are often replaced by folks that do a thorough PDI to brand new scoots. I dunno that it's always necessary. I think quality of the things used on Chinese scoots varies from scoot to scoot. Best bet is to clean the carb thoroughly and spray through all the passages whether you see anything fishy or not.
Valve lash is a really common cause of starting and poor running conditions on these too.

Thanks Brent, Would the lash be something like .008 intake and .012 on exhaust?

I just check 'em cold and lash can be from about .002" to .005". Sometimes different scoots like different settings. I start off with .003" IN and .004" EX most of the time and that's usually about right.
