I've been eyeing this scooter since I started working at Action Wheelsport a couple months back. Sold the Wolf Islander I had and immediately bought the used ZX50... what an upgrade! Here it is, as I purchased it: Even came with the Tecnigas exhaust! had the airbox restrictions removed and carb jetted already. Speedo indicated 55mph on the ride home with it, GPS verified 51mph. Learned the speedometer reads 10% more than actual speed, so I'm gonna get a wheel 10% larger to slow the rotation down a bit; it does need to shoes badly. These tires are HARD and slip very easily. First real modification was the turn signal delete in the rear. Simply unplug the external turn signals, and plug in the body panel signals... easy peasy! Unplugged this connection, and removed the signal: Then unplugged this grounded connection and plugged it into the factory turn signal connection. Done! Now I just need to do the fender delete to clean up the tail section. The front in-body turn signals don't even have a socket, just molded plastic. I'm gonna buy sockets for them to remove the external turn signals from the handlebars... I think it cleans the look up a lot. All looks aside, this thing moves for being all stock and a pipe with CVT upgrades! I almost don't wanna big bore it, add taller gears and a bigger carb and go 65+ but then again I do. We all know I can't keep anything stock....

These are common here in europe. actually one of my buddys had a zx fever with a cast iron 70cc cylinder. the engine was half apart when he bought it, he got it real cheap. i think it was only missing a piston but he never got it back together. i think it was siezed and crank was damaged. sadly my buddy didnt know this at the time of purchase. yours is much cleaner

Congrats, I bet that will become a favorite! It looks just like mine but cleaner. Are you sure it does not have a BBK on it already, that's a pretty good speed if it is indeed stock. Slap a 48mm cast iron cylinder kit on it and it's bulletproof.

He said they did CVT, pipe, airbox restriction delete and rejetting. I told him it felt like a mild big bore and he said "absolutely not, there is no cylinder kit on that bike at all". I mean hell, this thing rips already as is... I wonder what I can really get out of it? Does anyone know for sure if Dio gears fit? That will help e a lot, I already know cylinders and CVT and carbs etc I just need the details on gears. I can build a really nice, fast daily with this one I believe...

The gearbox is nothing like the Dio. The only up gear for the Kymco I know of is a malossi primary set, that puts you around 7:1 I have tried them and they are much too tall IMO. The stock Kymco gears are 10.?:1 and are nearly ideal IMO. One upgrade to consider is a 19-21mm Dellorto carb. I have a couple spare Doppler intakes that work with the stock reeds to make the conversion easier if you want one. The stock Kymco cranks are strong and have a 41.4mm stroke. Check out some of my threads for my Kymco work.

Just realized I have access to a 50mm cylinder kit for not too much... Also thinking the Naraku intake kit for better "v" style reeds. Maybe a 21mm with that setup? Hehe

For me the 19mm PHBG with the doppler intake was very good for my 48mm cylinder. The 21mm PHBG did not really improve anything, and it hurt fuel economy. No real need for the bigger intake and bigger reed cage until after you split the cases and enlarge the intake windows in the case. You can also delete the oil pump, install a plug in its place and go premix for piece of mind. My blue ZX is currently my only running scoot. My naked ZX is my favorite scoot: Naked Kymco

I'm sure it could hit 50 on a flat. seems like these zx50s are fast

The only reason to be looking at a 21mm carb is because it wants to rub on your Polini Corsa cast iron kit.
They can hold hands running down the road. Really, really fast.

Lil update about Ziggy...
Been riding him to work, and on our Sunday Slow rides, just riding this lil scoot all over! I absolutely love it.
Just one little issue: it'll bog/die out at random. The first time this happened I thought it was the soft seize, but it fired back up after pulling off the road. It has done this over and over again, completely at random. First thing I found was the cooling shroud wasn't fixed to the engine case and the fuel line was too long, resting ON the cylinder head then getting trapped under the non-attached shroud. I reaffixed the shroud, cut the line down a bit and it ran great for a couple days. Then it happened again, so I drilled 2 tiny holes thru my fuel cap. Seemed to be great, hasn't stalled yet!
Then yesterday it started acting up again. We cruised the beaches for a long time, and riding 35mph at half throttle I'd feel it lean out. Lil bog, and if I cracked wide open it would keep running and sometimes clear right up. Other times we'd be doing 40ish and I'd hold WOT, and feel the engine pulsating, like the carb bowl was being emptied and it was literally sucking fuel thru.
A few times when the scoot was new to me, I'd take off from a light or stop sign and it wouldn't rev up like it should. Just like slightly lean bog but it would slowly get up to speed. Then other times I'd take off and it would rev right up, and scream off the line.
I really wanna figure this out. I did swap the stock CDI out for a cheap "blue racing" CDI and I have a feeling it's the crappy CDI failing it's ignition timing. I have a stock minarelli CDI I'm going to wire in but that will probably be after the build.
Today I'm pulling the engine and taking it into the shop. Going to be installing the Airsal big bore kit, as well as deleting the oil pump. I will be porting the reed inlet ports to the crankcase to accept my larger reed block and intake and fitting either a 21 or 24mm PWK carb. I also need to port the boost port larger to match the Airsal's boost. The exhaust on there, Tecnigas NextR I think, should work fine for now.
Time to get to work!

Looks like that ZX has the original Cheng Shin Tires, I would heartily recommend getting new tires if that's the case Dex

The back one is worn from the previous owner riding it with low pressure. I'm kinda sold on Michelin Power Pure. 130/70-12 rear and 120/70-12 front. Going up a size on each, hopefully the speedo will read a lil more accurate. The stock Kymco tires last forever but they do have hardly any grip, so the Michelins will be nice.

It really didn't take long at all to pull this engine. Kinda happy the center stand is mounted to the scooter and not the engine. Only installed for servicing, it comes off when I ride.

Yeah, the frame mounted center stand is one of my favorite features. The power pure tires are my favorite the 130 will need to be completely deflated in order to get the wheel on the scoot but it fits, barely. A big screwdriver helps work the deflated tire past the exhaust hanger mounts on the case, line up the axle splines and hold your mouth just right.
