Project: Buddy back from the dead

Mint green buddy, I didn't like the color before but it's growing on me. Picked up this bike in October of 2019 but put it aside because of my Dio 1 build in early 2020. I use to work at a scooter rental place that sold and rented these. So I always wanted 1 but couldn't afford a spare scooter at the time. Seeing some buddy builds recently gave me some motivation to finish this one. 




First thing I had to do was lower the frontend. These bikes sit way too high. May put some fancy wheels on it later like my dios.





80/90-10 tire, converted frontend to jdm jog legs and 10mm hardware. The buddy has 12mm hardware.


Wasn't low enough so I pulled out the springs. Lol the ride is pretty shitty...

Found a cool seat to throw on the bike. I'm working on some other mods but won't post them until it's finalized...

Motor is stock for now. My goal is 60mph GPS. Without running a crazy racing chamber, I hate how they look...

I finally feel comfortable sharing where I'm currently at with this build. Been working on it on the side since the Dio 1 build took priority. Removed the buddy 50 motor for a euro minarelli long case. As far as I know this is the first swap of this kind on a buddy 50, there maybe others done but I haven't seen anything on social media or the internet.

Currently the motor is wired up to the chassis. Kill switch and all electrical functions work except for starter because I may install an overrange kit in the future

The motor is over built for what I'm using the bike for, but if I decide to go a more performance route I'm sure the crank will hold.

This is just a cruiser that looks cool, my dios are faster. Waiting to buy new plastics or possibly swap chassis if I find a cleaner buddy for cheap. And I also have another wheel set up on side.

Someone actually using the Buddy as a build platform. Finally! I honestly sort of see these as the new dio or Elite/Jog in terms of modding scooters. Just a new build platform that sadly doesnt get enough attention. Hawt damn that thing looks prime ❤

I haven't seen a minarelli Buddy before. It's too bad you didn't stick with the PGO motor. Very few PGO tuners out there.

EDIT: realized that sounded like a negative remark, it's not. This will be a certified ripper!

All good. I've seen pgo motors modified to go fast but I built this specifically to run the long case minarelli motor from Europe. I wanted to run this CVT cover and wheel. Also I like the support these motors have. I notice the pgo motors are a toss up on if the parts will fit or not. I still have the stock motor in case I sell the bike and find another chassis for the motor.

My roughhouse was and is a pain with aftermarket parts. Nothing fits right.

Shaved off the rear fender mounts from frame and panels to clean up the buddy's rear end. 








Still need to find replacement panels...
