IT'S ALIVE!!
I flipped the reeds and kicked it over. Same result. Nothing.
I unbolted the exhaust and she fired into life spitting flames. It did not run it for long with no exhaust. That's not great for 2 strokes but it did prove to me that there must be a nasty clog in the exhaust bad enough to prevent it from running at all.
Pretty happy to have my ears ringing!

Small Update:
I took the ZX for a quick ride around the block. I really dig it. It's big and comfortable but it runs better without the air filter. Time to play with main jetting. Does anyone know a source for stock Honda/Kymco 14mm Keihin carb main jets?
Besides switching to pre-mix, everything is stock.

I bought a Naraku Jet kit (Part number NK 200.22) for my personal ZX50. has 74-96 size jets

Thank you! I just ordered it along with the rubber floor mat.
Once it's sorted, I think I'm going to leave it stock ( de-restricted ) and just enjoy it as a non-project.

This thing is awesome! The turn signals have been relocated to use the integrated lights. I threw in an 86 main jet and took it for a quick spin. It loves it. I might try putting an 88 in it but as we'll see. There is a metallic clunking that happens at certain RPM. I am not sure what that's about so I'm going to chase it to see where it's coming from. If it was a crank or rod thing, it would make the sound all the time, right? It's nearly at the point where it is no longer a project. It's nice to have something nice and stock! EDIT: I think the rattle that I am hearing is just more debris breaking up in the exhaust. I hope that's what it is anyways!

I too have a red one, not on the road yet I need to build a motor up for it. I also have a blue one with a 70cc cylinder, it's my only running scooter at this time. I also have one I made get naked, it was a favorite of mine for quite a while but has no motor in it at the moment.

I did the front mod as well... here's a little video explaining it. I forgot to mention the socket fits into a recess in the plastic assebmly - what I meant by "it all just pulls into place" the plastic is "punch out", where the wires go thru you can either drill or just punch out with a philips screwdriver. nice scooter. I am also a zx50 owner. 21 mm is a good choice I use a 21 PWK carburetor (90 main jet, and 35 idle jet) 80 km/h (50 mph) peak.

That's great you've managed to keep the air box. Quieter too.

Hello! It's amazing spring time weather in Texas. I tried running a 90 MJ but it just didn't like it. I put an 86 MJ back in and it seems really happy. PICS No other plans for it at this time, besides riding and enjoying it.

Went for a ride it died on me.
The air filter fell apart and got sucked into the carb. I cleaned the air-box and carb, and installed a new filter. I even stepped it up and got the fancy air filter spray oil too.
Thinking the new air filter was less restrictive, I up-jetted to a 90 MJ. WOT, the most I saw was 310 degrees and 8750 RPM. I think I can go to 88, maybe back to the 86 that was in there before.
I also prepared to change the gearbox oil but upon loosening the filler hole, I saw the oil was in good bright red color. No reason to change that for now.
No mods planned at this time. It'll do 45MPH easily, topping out at 50, and cruise in the mid-high 200 degree range.
Soon, I'll open up and inspect the CVT. I think there could be a few extra MPH depending on belt condition and travel.
