Got this far today. I need a slide hammer to get the rocker arm pins out so I can swap the cam. The new cylinder & piston look nice. Kit came with a thin & thick base gasket too. Hopefully it runs well when it’s finished.

Got it put back together yesterday & when I went to start found out it was leaking fuels around the new fitting. Picked up some thread sealant on the way to work this morning so hopefully it’ll be good to go tomorrow.

Got it running today, that fitting is still giving me problems however. My battery also crapped out so I had to order one. I robbed the battery from my 50 so I could ride it. Put about 15 miles on it. Rode it to the gas station & filled up with some fresh 93. Didn’t do any top speed runs but I was babying it either. I’m in the break it in hard group. It pulls way better. It’ll accelerate going up hill with me on it which was something it wouldn’t do before. It’ll also hit an indicated 60 pretty easily where not so before. I’ll give few more miles & see what it’ll do top speed now. I had read the cam makes a pretty big difference over just a bore kit & this seems to be true. It feels like it’s pulling strong on the top end.

So I’ve ran 1 tank through it so far & I’ll say I’m impressed. I feel like it’s broke in a little & it down right moves. It was an honest 55mph scooter before. Now it hits an indicated 60mph with ease & on the flat will do 65. In a tuck downhill this morning I hit 70. Speedo is about 3mph optimistic. On a 55mph road today I was passing some cars lol. The kit was $380 so for the price it was a big improvement. I’m considering a NCY sleeper exhaust to see if the catted exhaust is a bottleneck now? Not looking for a loud pipe however. Fuel injection is nice too lol. If you’ve thought about a 125 before I would recommend it.

Yes I know how you feel I crossed from 50cc 2t to 125cc 4T injected,it,s quick enough away from the lights and does 60 out the showroom door.not sure if a pipe will help on a 4T but I swapped out a stock 4T 50cc pipe and used a stealth exhaust for just a tad of gain.

I have a fairly healthy 70 sport that I put way more in & this one outruns it, is more comfortable, & way better on fuel. I love 2 strokes but for a daily driver or similar to me there really isn’t a comparison. I know a loud pipe on a 4 stroke isn’t like changing to a tuned pipe on a 2 stroke. Just curious about at what point it becomes the weak link. I think I read that after 175 you need to mod the airbox & ditch the factory pipe. I’m running a k&n in my stock box just trying to decide if the factory pipe is robbing a little from me or not. Quite honestly I’ll get that ncy pipe soon & see. A Yoshi or similar is out due to volume. I prefer the wild lion street pipe over my yasuni r on the 2 stroke for noise.

Well I went ahead & ordered an exhaust. Really digging this scoot so decided not to wait.

I installed the NCY sleeper exhaust a while back. I’ve not shredded 2 belts. The factory torque driver has a fat weld at the bottom that eats belts when they start going over 65mph. I have a new TFC torque driver coming from Drow sports tomorrow. It’s has different grooves to pick from but more importantly it does away with the weld so should keep me from shredding belts. Fingers crossed.

Here’s what I’m talking about.

Fixed my problem. Took it down a long stretch of hilly roads that ate the last 2 belts & ran it wide open for several miles without issue. Now I just want more so debating on a stroker crank or a big valve head. I know the crank will give more but requires pulling the motor & splitting the case.

Done a few more things to the 125. Put on some new shoes & the ride is much improved over the worn original tires. Also installed a larger fan to hopefully add a little cooling, it get hot around here in the summer. Have a clutch & bell coming in today & have some gears waiting to be installed. I’ll get some pictures when I work on it next.

I installed the 12/40 gears. It’ll cruise at 50 at 1/4 throttle & top speed I’m sure has increased but it really needs more power to pull it hard. I’m planning on a stroker crank to bump it up to 175cc but it’ll probably be over the winter when I have some downtime.

Good to see the upgrades are going well. I keep thinking about putting Polini or Malossi and sliders in, plus a new clutch, but it rides so easy that I’d hate to screw up a good cruiser.
The gears are interesting though, because cruising at that speed with that little throttle is very appealing.
ETA - just saw you’re getting over 65mph? That’s crazy for a 125!

Yes it’ll do around 70. The rc158 is supposed to dyno at around 12hp at the tire. It is a dramatic difference over stock. The dr pulley variator added several mph too. I can’t say I’ll never build a 50 again but for an actual rider this wins hands down.
