Hello all I am so happy I found this board. I just bought a 2008 Peace Sports 50 scooter for a winter project. It only has 866 miles on it. But that is due to carb issues (from sitting) I can get it to run with a shot o starter fluid/carb cleaner. But if you put gas in the tank, it drips out the carb. I don't know much about these as I have always had bigger motorcycles. I am not sure if I should try to clean the carb or replace or replace with a better one if available. I hope I don't wear out my welcome with too many stupid questions Thanks in advance JohnB53

Replacement carbs are cheap but you have to find the right type. Otherwise it is very similar to working on a motorcycle. Same types of problems but parts are usually very cheap.

Welcome to the forum. No such thing as a stupid question. But if it's leaking fuel it's probably the needle valve or float sticking.

Do not overthink it - you have the experience - usually what YOU feel is the problem, is right!

Well I'm back I have been working on the scoot and got it going good. I replaced the carb, lines and filter. New good gas and it runs great. I fixed some broken plastic clips on the body panels and painted them and I must say it looks good. Also learned how to plastic weld and that went well too. I decided that since I don't know the history I am going to change oil and gear lube. Oil looks straight forward but when looking into lube I am not sure . So on the picture I took on the far right I would think the upper bolt is fill level? The lower left bolt should be drain correct? Now behind the drain bolt is a vent tube. What is that for and should it have a tube on it to somewhere?. Thanks JohnB53

John, nice to see you making progress,I think you have it right, the vent will have had a hose originally just to get any overspill on to the floor,if you like start a build thread it helps to keep track of your progress.

Most scooters don't take much oil at all in the gearbox. It might be too much filling to the upper hole. Quote often it has an amount stamped on the area near the filler. Most small scooter only take about 125mm of oil. If it's a GY6, try downloading one of the manuals on the left drop down bar.

Well, I got the scoot all checked over, fluids change and put back together. Now the long wait till spring so I can put on a few miles. But to keep me busy this winter I have another longer project started. I have a 1978 Yamaha SR500 motorcycle that I am going to mount a 2002 Velorex 562 sidecar to it. Will take a little doing as I need to custom build a subframe to mount to. Met a nice guy from Austria online that has built 2 of them and is willing to answer questions. So it should be an interesting winter for sure. Later Johnb53

Equal parts original formula Pine-Sol and water works a treat. Don’t let it sit more than 24 hours or it can start to damage metal. Rinse with warm water, blow out with compressed air. You’ll still have to hit the jets with the wee brushes, but it’s an order of magnitude cheaper than dip.

Thanks for the offer but I just use this around town so I don't need the extra power. JohnB
