Last summer I did my first scooter transformation. It isn’t my scooter, it belongs to one of my day job employees. It started as this 2012 Tao Tao VIP in very rough condition. He stripped it down to the frame and then we started fabricating. I made the seat mounts out of the bent steel tubing from an old patio chair. The floor and front dash I made from a couple pieces of aluminum tread plate, bent in a cheap Harbor Freight brake. My friend is a 22 year veteran of the Army National Guard. So, we mounted a couple .30 cal ammo cans to serve as saddle bags (1 of them also houses the battery). We also made a bracket so a .50 cal ammo can will drop in under the front seat… sort of a take-it-with-you storage area. The front seat hinges sideways to acces the “trunk” and the rear seat hinges backwards for access to the fuel tank. We recycled the turn signals and the tail light. The front fender was fashioned from a boat trailer fender. He has since added a white star to the left side saddle bag, added his unit logo to the rear of the other saddle bag and added his rank and stripes to the blank side of the .50 can. His teenage son rides it all over town while wearing the old man’s BDU’s and Kevlar helmet. He looks pretty intimidating for a 100 pound kid and the ear to ear grin gives him away.

I looks way way better now than how it comes from the factory! Nice job!
