I have heard diameter matters... LOL
That shaft just needs a stretcher. I have heard of people hanging a weight from the end.

Got the gears and selectors in after following Haynes manual with a arse about face picture I was trying to follow. Needs a Clymer manual they were much better. Then to put the other half of case on to test gear's select ok and can't find a little roll pin. Dammo will have to wait till tomorrow when my amazing memory kicks in.

Can't you buy a roll pin at the local hardware store? If you were at my place we could dig through a couple boxes of assorted roll pins and cut one off if needed. I have purchased several packages of assorted roll pins or just pins in general, even ball bearings, clips, circlips, E-clips, snap rings internal/external, or many springs over the years. I even save hardware like that in boxes and bins. One never knows what they may find...

HOORAY! Sounds kind of like going to another room for something, forgetting what it was, going back to the starting point to find the thought, finding it, going back for the item, finding it, going back to chair to rest.

Well held up again as wrong gasket set sent and have had to order 3 individual ones and use top end set of the wrong one they sent so that won't happen till about 7 days time now. Got Kickstarter in place after heating spring and turning through 90° even the ones listed by suppliers didn't have a twist on them and no way the end is going to secure in the hole. Luckily I had a look at a YouTube video on the Honda CG and noticed it as that's what my engine is based on, a bit more updated and on the downside also corners cut for max profits most likely. But at least it's in.

Sounds like you need to figure out how to make gaskets. Cereal boxes, copier paper, or paper bags make good general purpose gaskets depending on the thickness needed. I have also used brass shim stock for metal gaskets. Transfer punches are handy for hole locations. I often use spray photo-mount adhesive on one side and grease on the other during installation. Good old permatex aviation form-a-gasket works well as a gasket material especially where petrol or gasoline exposure occurs, a small tub with a brush will last you 20 years. I suspect the aviation form-a-gasket would even work as a case sealer, it doesn't take much, just a very thin film. Most people use WAY too much RTV or sealants which can cause squeeze-out and small pieces that can block passages or ruin pumps or bearings.

Tool blindness is a horrible disease that only gets worse with age. The wailing and "nashing of teeth" gets dramatically worse with age as we learn more words. It starts when we are very young and our parents hide our favorite toys and laugh at the cries of disappointment and rage we make unknowingly setting up lifelong behavior habits. It only gets worse when we discover the tool or toy was in our hand, pocket, or where we left it all along.
That case shows the striking difference in cost, weight, size, and complexity between a manual transmission and a CVT for a tiny little engine. I still hate rubber band CVTs.

I think I'm past the tool blindness stage. I also suffer from part blindness. The part I just had in my hand is nowhere to be seen moments later.

Nothing new for us lot then 🤪. Tonight the garage ramp is free till Tuesday morning so I cracked on wheeled the frame over and engine on the sack barrow and parts in the car. Happy with progress but damn sure those engines didn't weigh that much 20 years ago.
Time for a painkiller at bedtime.
