It is always best to find the actual problem before one starts moving connections, parts, etc. Shotgun problem solving introduces MORE problems.
I am not finding anything today, my legs hurt too bad. Nice weather to be working outside too, 67°F, high 72°F. No wenching for me today either.

Well ac power from stator ok so rectifier ordered for Wednesday. I bet I find my spare one now🙂. Found starter solenoid so replace that in morning as moving the earth lead and cleaning didn't do any improvement to the slow turning of starter.

Ordering a new spare part always helps to find the spare you already have. When you have ordered enough you will have a spare for every tool kit, junk drawer, junk box, parts box, shelf, tool box, and shed... -Don't ask how I know that.
Did you eliminate the possibility of a bad connection or connector on the wire from the solenoid to starter?

Last flip project? You know you will be standing somewhere in the future with your eyes bugging out, an itch between the shoulder blades, money burning a hole in your pocket, looking at some derelict pile of corroded metal and busted plastic, with delirium tremens symptoms, stammering, "I'll buy it..."

I’m not buying it either. This is not an addiction one can just quit cold turkey.

It's worse, much worse. The urge to tinker with stuff was inbred in some of us long before we climbed down out of the trees...

You're talking a good game Milly. But unfortunately you're actions in the past say otherwise.

Starter arrived and solenoid all put on and time to get together and gone. Wrong starter spinning but doesn't engage. All measurements good same as old. Starter clutch engages when spun by hand. Stumped 🤔 back to the drawing board and scooters now shoved back into the dark corner.

Check starter rotation direction. They can be wired wrong internally. Check for burrs or tight spots in the clutch.
