A few more photos. The air filter is off the manifold and the manifold is off the intake. I believe the last photo shows my finger on the head of the cylinder. When I remove that I should be looking at the valves and tappets.  Only problem was working bent over and needing a flashlight in one hand while wrenching with the other.   At one point I needed both hands and held the flashlight with my teeth.

Yes sometimes it's tricky. I have a head torch I use.

Getting to the heart of it...now that the valve cover is off. Four bolts one size and two bolts a bit smaller. I tried to mark where the smaller bolts go. One clue was they can't be seen. I used a socket to feel til i felt it drip over what I hoped was a bolt head.

Now I have to remove the large side cover so I can find TDC before the tappets.

...and remove the spark plug to make rotating the crankshaft easier.

Never saw the spark plug but by feeling with a 17vmm socked I found it

The problem now is there's two areas of plastic. One above and one below the cylinder.

Got the two pieces of plastic off the cylinder. Now there's a large cover on the left side and a smaller cover on the right side. I assume the left cover must come off to set TDC. Or is it the right cover? BTW, I dug out my old belt from my younger days working as a furniture mover. It makes bending over much less painful.

I'm down to the large cover on the left side. I counted and removed 9 bolts. It's still tight with no moving. I'd rather not use a hammer or chisel in case I've missed anything. One photo of the left side and one of me befuddled.

I scanned aeroxbud's video. I guess I didn't need to remove the left side cover. I'll put the screws back in.

So the nuts atop the camshaft are off. I haven't gone any further. I see a metal plate attached to the flywheel. Rotating clockwise I see two marks. First a II mark followed by a large T. Assuming  that's TDC I see the valve tappets are LOOOOSE!  BUT   BUT   BUT  the holes in the cam don't quite line up parallel and perpendicular.   I wonder if it was a mistake to remove the cam nuts.   I'll do some reading and think about it for a while.   Right off the bat I'm guessing I should re-torque the cam nuts and see if that helps problem with the  position of the holes in the cam.
