if you dont have a palte i gaurantee in any state that requires plates they will read the vin and run it as well they should I never said they shouldnt so if you go out of state you would be willing to let every cop that comes across you stop you becuase you have no plate No I never said I would be willing to do all that. If i go to that state Its up to me to have a plate or not ride or accept the consequences when caught. I am not going to support legislation that requires me to own a spacesuit on the off chance i decide to vacation on the moon i cant see were this is comeing to be a money grab but more like closing loopholes in existing state laws what loophole is this you speak of? There is no 'loophole' in any existing law that I am using to keep me from not tagging, insuring etc my scooters. There simply is no law saying I have to.

Hi guy, I'm new to this forum I began reading this thread because Indiana is right now considering similar laws for Scooters... Here are my thoughts, when you see a DWI riding a scooter what do you see ?? I see a man obeying the law plain and simple, if he is swerving and drunk then he is disobeying the law, but until then he's obeying it... Let me put it another way..
People are going to survive, somehow, "most" try and comply with the law as best as they can.. If you make the law that is sees scooters in the same class as cars, then whats the point for them to ride a scooter when the consequences are the same ?
I explained it to our state rep in an email. Indiana has provided a way thru the use of a scooter, for those that have problems with their license, to work, pay taxes... If you make the drivers licenses necessary for scooters you will be criminalizing those currently obeying the law and removing from them the means in whitch they maintain their homes, jobs, paying taxes...
Many use the scooter as a stop gap until problems with their drivers license's are fixed.. And by the way, in your mailing you are always calling scooters mopeds, this is incorrect as mopeds have pedals, scooters don't..

Hi guy, I'm new to this forum I began reading this thread because Indiana is right now considering similar laws for Scooters... FYI ~ Indiana seem like they consider the type of scoot in your avatar a motorcycle and requires an endorsement for it. Its sort of gray, and I dont know if they enforce it, but if you got a policeman with an opinion, could be bad. Here is the law: (2) Scooter-a vehicle that has the following: (a)Motive power (engine or motor); (b)A seat, but not a saddle for the driver; (c)Two wheels; (d)A floorpad for the drivers feet (floorboard); (e)Intended for 1 occupant (the driver)
When a scooter is considered a moped (1)When it is rated at 2HP or less; and (2)When is has 50cc or less; and (3)When the designed speed is not greater than 25MPH
When a scooter is considered a motorcycle (1)When it is rated at more than 2HP; and (2)When it has more than 50cc; and (3)When the designed speed is greater than 25MPH.
(f) If this is the case in the latter example, then it is considered a motorcycle (i) Drivers and passengers under 18 must wear head and eye protection; (ii) Drivers must have with them a valid motorcycle endorsement or motorcycle learners permit; (iii) The vehicle must be registered (license plates) and insured; (iv)All other motor vehicle laws apply; (v) It may be driven by no more than 2 side by side in a single lane.
regards, LM in KY

All I'm trying to say is that Indiana is considering the same as SC with the drivers license being required for all scooters, yes currently a 50 cc is exempt from that, but that's what they want to change.
what i em saying is you must leave people a legal way to make a living or your simply inviting them to break the law... If I made a law saying its illegal for you to bend over, could you keep from doing it,,, people must eat, reside in a home or apt, support families.... If you make every thing illegal to them then they will do it anyway..
I'm in complete agreement with 1Fastqmb...
Thanks thunderkat59, my scooter is no longer considered a scooter by Indiana law, it's a motorcycle under the law, and I em insuring, plating and tagging it.. But I knew I would need to do so when I was building it....

SC already requires a license for a 50cc and under? that proves this proposed bill is a moneygrab right there. I little piece of metal on the back fender will not make anyone any safer.

SC has some of the most backward and corrupt Pols in the world !! They make small Mexican town politicians seem noble. Thats for sure. USA consists of all the states and then SC. SC seems to be an entity unto itself. Crossing over into SC from NC is like going into a whole other country.

I think every state has some beautiful areas. Even in my little area that I often don't think of as anything special there are amazing views over rivers and the Chesapeake bay and a little farther out I can go check out the Atlantic Ocean.

I love to travel. Every state (even Florida ) has their good places. I rip on SC politicians but to drive through the undeveloped Low-Country when the sun is coming up will give you religion. I'm a mountain type guy and the range of mountains that run from NW Georgia up through Tenn, KY, NC, VA, MD, PA, upstate NY and into Vermont is on-par with anything the world has to offer when you get outside of the over-developed areas.

I rarely go to Baltimore or DC, but I find it amazing to see these enormous structures everywhere. I walk out and see open fields and trees so it's just crazy to me. lol

The coastline of SC is that states redeeming quality once you get south of murder i mean Myrtle Beach lol. I for one prefer the natural beauty of the coast not the commercial stuff the kids go for and thats all Myrtle Beach is. drunk teen spring breakers. I didnt even like it then.

I have worked in almost every state and each has it's own "Cool" factor.
Bad thing for me is, that some of the colder states offered a much better view and coolness to them but there just to darn cold for me to want to move there. So im stuck in MO. it's cold right now, and hot in the summer but you can still ride all year given the roads are safe to ride on so i suppose it's a happy medium.
