Back to the topic at hand.... If SC wanted to pass a 2 wheel 'saftey' law they would make helmets mandatory. This proposed bill is about money for the state not safety for anyone. I for one hope the folks in SC fight it because if SC passes it, that makes this legislation one step closer to our own states (unless you have it already then its too late).

I didn't even finish reading this thread. I seen someone wants to "stereotype" every fkn body that doesnt have a lisence...I DON'T HAVE A LISENCE AND FK NO, I DONT HAVE A FKN DWI... MY lisence are revoked for to many driving offenses of driving w/o a lisence....Been happily riding mine for 4yrs now(all yr) I see even ppl riding the sccots classify everybody else riding the notorious "LIQUOR CYCLE".. I personally think this is B.S. Recently N.C tried this as well. I for one can only hope this DOES NOT pass as i am one of the ones that will get screwed.. To who ever said it would be harder to sell a stolen scoot? IDK where your at, but in N.C, there are things called a "chop shop" so, uuuhhhh your scoot will disappear forever in just a few moments regardless of being "hot" or "cold". I gotta side with 1fastqmb on this. Just 2 weeks ago, i was pulled over YET AGAIN and given a DWLR,speeding, etc. ON A SCOOTER...(said you can only do 35mph on a FLAT ground, i was doing 44 DOWNHILL)... The MAIN reason he pulled me you ask? ?? said he figured i must be drinking since i was riding a scooter... :stumped: .....The age old fkn" liquor cycle" treatment............

Colorado has a drivers license, insurance and registration requirement. It's easy to think "its just about the State getting more money" but that is faulty logic. It is the insurance industry reaping the bounty. Insurance lobbiest are pushing these laws and boosting campaign contributions. Colorado makes less than $2.00 yearly however I pay $90.00 for useless insurance. How many 3000lb automobile drivers are hospitolized after being hit by a 150lb scooter?
One good benefit to scooterists in Colorado, with the new law, the speed limit for 50cc went up to 40MPH.

oh yeah im sure there is a scooter chop shop on every block i didnt say it was going to stop all theft but it will make it harder as they will either have to find a chop shop and i bet they are just beging for all these low dollar scooter parts to come in or they will have to take it some where they can sell it without a title or take the chance of selling it without a title on just a bill of sale and hope it dont come abck to them

Im not calling you names or posting anything about you. Im just offering something to think about. Money for whom? Here is simple math. $2.00 x 10000 scooters = $20,000 I doubt that fixes any budget. The state probably spends that much processing and mailing my tag. $100 x 10000 scooters = $1,000,000 for insurance companies with little risk to pay. Now that really adds up. IMHO, Laws come from Lobbiest. This is not an insult to anyone with a different opinion. I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes.

I just found this. The bill was to remove the word MOPED in the last sentance. And it has passed. www.scstatehouse.gov/votehistory.php?KEY=2570SECTION 1. Section 56 5 130 of the 1976 Code is amended to read: “Section 56 5 130. Every vehicle which is self propelled, except mopeds, and every vehicle which is propelled by electric power obtained from overhead trolley wires, but not operated upon rails, is a ‘motor vehicle’.” "SECTION 2. Section 56 5 140 of the 1976 Code is amended to read: “Section 56 5 140. Every motor vehicle having no more than two permanent functional wheels in contact with the ground or trailer and having a saddle for the use of the rider, but excluding a tractor or a moped, is a ‘motorcycle’.” SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor."

I will be fighting this bill all the way i got a scooter because of the reason of not having to have all these laws keeping me from driving i lost my license for getting behind on child support that's what the do to people in Ohio so when i moved to SC i was like hell yes i can get around without having a car (i have a moped license)

“Section 56 5 140. Every motor vehicle having no more than two permanent functional wheels in contact with the ground or trailer and having a saddle for the use of the rider, but excluding a tractor or a moped, is a ‘motorcycle’.” My supermoto is a wheelie monster. Where's the unicycle-with-training-wheel amendment? :riding: Seriously, though, this is silly. On one hand, they're admitting that 2-wheels are different than 4... but they're still requiring (more and more) for all 2-wheels to act like 4-wheels... You get what I'm saying? They expect us to drive and pay and behave as if we're all driving cars around. Silliness. Defeats all the benefits of scoots and the benefits of motorcycles.
