I picked this up from the dealership while on my lunch break on Monday. I haven't even broken the 1 mile mark yet, rode from the truck straight into the garage. At least I got it's first ride in the rain out of the way. There is already a pile of the usual upgrades headed my way. Over my long Independence Day weekend I'll put in some break-in miles and see what it can and cannot do before I start the process of voiding my warranty. I don't know yet just how far I want to go with this, maybe send the engine out to get bored, but I am fairly certain I don't want to go with the whole gy6 swap thing. I'd like to be able to say "yes officer, that's the original engine".

Nice buy. We haven't been able to buy the Rukus here for years. It was only available for two year when it was first released. Still like them.

I got the tach and NCY CDI installed today, I guess that probably voids my warranty, or at least a good portion of it. Of course, I forgot to take pictures throughout the process. I think I want to get a bracket to mount that tach up on the bar where it's easier to see, need to try and figure out where I got the one for my C3. Tomorrow, or possibly next weekend, I'll get the Polini variator and slider weights installed and tuned. I'm not sure if I'll feel like messing with jetting tomorrow, so I'll leave the intake until I've got a full day to play with it. I also have an exhaust, two actually, I may have gone a bit overboard, but I'm not sure that I want to install it or not, I kind of prefer quiet.

1. How is the tuning going? 2. Yoshimura exhaust is excellent for non fatty tire set-ups. 3. You look that officer dead in the eyes and lie your ass off.(translation: Do 30mph when the law is lurking.)

The modifications to the stock engine are on hold for the moment. But, this may wind up taking an odd turn. I have a low mileage spare engine for another scooter in the back of the garage that is giving me ideas. I already have a Mallossi big bore cylinder kit for it as well as a bunch of other upgrades. At some point soon, I plan on tearing everything down to see how much work it is going to take to make the engine fit. I'd like to try and do this and still have it appear kinda sorta stock(ish) at a quick glance. Since the engine that I want to install started life at 49cc, I don't have to lie as much as if I stretch it and swap in a 150cc gy6.

Engines with the mounts on top are easier to transplant than ones with bottom mounts. Also be aware of frame clearance for carb, wheel, etc. A 2 stroke will definitely give you some ooomph!

It's a fuel injected C3/Zuma four stroke engine. Mounts are on top, one frame clearance issue I may run into is with the throttle body and the front crossmember. I may get lucky and be able to flip the throttle body around 180°, if not, I may need to do a bit of surgery on the crossmember. I plan to stick with factory sized(ish) tires, so I don't think there should be any issues with that. One thing I need to look into, is whether the Yamaha stator can handle the dual headlights, I may need to upgrade to LED, probably wind up doing that at some point anyway.

That could be a sweet swap! I remember when happypancake did a BBK on his Q-Bert C3 it was quite the cool bike (he alway did great builds).

I still really want a Ruckus. Prices on used ones here are so high it's almost cheaper to just buy a brand new one. My dream build for one would be swapping a CR85 or 125 engine into it with a rear swingarm and fabricating a twist shifter. The GY6 swaps aren't bad I guess but the stock engine is also very good for being a 49cc 4T.
Can't wait to see what you do with this one!

Here is the engine that I am working with, it came out of a 2018(ish) Zuma. I spent a few hours today sorting out the wiring harness and checking to make sure that this thing actually runs before I go through the process of tearing down the Ruckus and making this fit. I temporarily hooked the harness to the ignition switch and brake/start/kill switch on my C3 to keep from having to jump a whole bunch of wires. It starts, but doesn't want to idle for very long, but I think that may be due to the can of gas I was using, it is a can of Tru-Fuel that I dont remember buying, and it doesn't smell right. I had to stop because the battery I was using decided that it was done for the day. I went ahead and installed the exhaust because I didn't want to listen to it any more without it and also don't want to make my neighbors listen to it either.

Yeah, I gave up on trying to find a good used Ruckus, the nicer ones are usually priced like they are brand new anyway, and are hit or miss on whether they have a title for it. Anything reasonably priced is always already sold, and anything cheap has been beat all to hell and definitely won't come with a title. In Maryland, we are required to title, register, and insure, so it is kinda necessary to get a title when purchasing.

Cleanest and easiest way is to buy the mount for ruckus, makes it a true bolt in, kinda pricey but worth knowing that it won't fall out or your welds breaking, easier to swap back original engine too, and since you will have the mount 150cc gy6 swap too.
Top mount 50cc can't be very different than a 150cc, even if thiner mount you can just add spacers or the OG way, thick stack of washers 😀😀

Started the teardown today. It looks like the mounts on the Zuma engine are a bit farther back, plus I can't get it as far forward as I'd like without having to modify the exhaust and either modify the crossmember or fuel injection, so it looks like I'm going to need one of the stretch mounts. As it sits in the pictures, I've got about 6 3/4" between the frame mount bolt and the engine mount bolt, I can probably get away with sccoting it forward another 1/4 inch or so. The engine Mounts are also slightly off of the center line and narrower, I can probably make up for that with some spacers. I'm thinking about getting the NCY 6.5" stretch kit, anyone have one handy to get a front to back measurement between the bolt holes? Is it at least 6.5"? I could probably fabricobble a mount, but I think I'd rather just buy one and if necessary, modify or adapt it. I think I'd probably trust their welding or machining better than mine. I am hoping to do this with as few irreversible modifications to the Honda bits as possible, but I will do what I have to. I may hack up the wiring harness a bit, but I could fix that if I ever want to go back. Out with the old... In with the new(older, actually)... Looks like I may need a longer shock too.

PS You can mail that brand spanking new Ruck motor to Greensboro, NC. and I will give it a good home. Just saying…
