Hey folks! I have a roughhouse 50cc 2 stroke that I got without the air box or exhaust so I installed an aftermarket exhaust with expansion chamber, and i put a pod filter on the carb intake. I currently am running 42 pilot and 88 main jet, and I have shimmed the needle with a washer, but i dont get instant throttle response at all. Im thinking I need to go up to 90? I also ordered 4G rollers to get some more acceleration (im building this for wheelies, so top speed does not matter to me) Any suggestions? Do i NEED to purchase an air box? This is my first 2 stroke and I have noticed no one does intake pod filters on them and am wondering if that is part of my issue. Thanks!

Scooters tend to run better when you use the air box. They don't like the turbulent air flow. Pod filters also make it more difficult to tune when there is a fluctuation in temperature, or humidity. You don't lose any performance using the air box until you get to the more serious performance kits.

I was thinking of grabbing one of those generic GY6 50cc air boxes to use in the mean time.

OK so i put a 95 main in it and its much better now, i also took some better pictures of it since ive removed the blinkers and some other items. Put a leo vance exhaust that i modified to fit, it pops up pretty responsively now! just gotta put the aftermarket turn signals and install the 4G rollers i got for it

After riding it a bit more i think i need to up my idle jet by 1 or 2 more points, i have a slight 3/4 second lag when hitting the throttle from a dead stop

Scoot looks nice.👌 It still surprises me after so many years of being out of production. You still find ZX pipes out there. They were literally on everything over here. Great performance for a cheap price.

Great performance for a cheap price. I got it for free when i worked at the local scooter shop during the summer, customer bought it for their scooter but it was the wrong size for their setup so they went back to stock and threw it away. I took it out of the trash and held onto it for over a year before i had a scooter that it would fit lol. I really gotta sand the exhaust down and clean it up, the surface rust makes it look bad

Did some tuning tonight, it was 35 degrees out, the new jet is great but with the cold weather and intake filter setup it needs a bit more but will probably be perfect in summer. I tried out some 4g rollers, i could pop it up insanely easy but topped out at 35 unless i pushed it really hard, so for now i put an alternating setup of the 4g and the stock rollers which i believe are 7.5. Im gonna order some 5g and 6g rollers to do some further tuning and I'm considering putting a 100 jet. I also noticed my belt is insanely stretched and was way too easy to take off and put on so im gonna order a new belt as well. Also, I noticed the belt is not going up the drive face all the way theres a good 1-2mm of unused space so i gotta figure that out too.

the stock variator does not get full belt travel
Replace it with either a ncy they cost around 35 bucks and you can use the stock ramp plate .
Scooterworks in Chicago sells the ncy golden variator . That will get all the way to edge on that variator with stock belt .
The malossi or polini variator is a notch better but they cost around 100 bucks .
I get home tonight I know I have an extra polini variator for roughhouse and A extra stock roughhouse airbox if you are inrerested I will take pictures

And yeah whatever parts you have, send me pictures and pricing! Im very interested in any parts whether stock or aftermarket. These Roughhouse are very expensive here in Chicago as theyre pretty popular and its hard to find cheap ones for part outs.

I put a 105 main jet since its now dropped below freezing and shes running great. I STILL think she could use a TINY bit more but i want to wait for it to be warm again before i continue tuning the carburetor, for now its good enough and i can focus on the CVT

I removed the Vance exhaust today and put the stock one back on, the custom bracket i made for the vance one was a bit too late, a crack formed near the mount point that i didnt notice until today. I should have made the exhaust bracket before installing it but my excitement got the better of me. I will get it repaired and re install it at some point this summer.
