Sup guys. I discovered today on the magic interwebs that pre-built engines for scoots exist and now I'm super interested in buying one. I have a roughhouse that I've been considering putting a 150 on.
Has anybody purchased one (maybe not the malossi ones) and had good results / decent quality?
There are a few models on partsforscooters that seem decently priced.

If you're just buying a stock GY6 from PFS, eBay and so on... then basically expect what you would of the engine in a new Chinese scooter. You can get some shops to build custom GY6s to their or your specs, but the price tag is much different. Same goes for engines like Malossi, Polini, 8.1 and so on... and many of the high end racing engines like those still require full assembly.

Mounting locations also vary between engine types, styles, and sizes, -some fabrication and assembly required.

I have no real experience with chinese 4 strokes. But I assume with some digging around here and bunch of basic tools, you can prepare such engines to be quite reliable. Best would be to import an aircooled piaggio 125cc two stroke from a Piaggio Typhoon 125 from Europe. Bulletproof, easy to work on and way way way faster than a 150 4 stroke.

Nothing wrong with Chinese gy6 engines, just use a decent carb and variator setup and they last through a whole lot of abuse and neglect. Very forgive on tuning and other learning curves.
Ran a Amazon 150cc on questionable gas for over a year and other sketchy stuff and thing fan fine. The gy6 is like the small block v8. Thing is hard to kill
