Hello all! I have recently picked up an 04 Zuma and I’m looking for advice on some good first mods. The scooter is all stock and currently in good running condition. I have done some basic things such as clean and lubricate the cvt components and replace the belt. I have looked at various cylinders and exhaust systems as well as carburetors and cvt components and I just don’t know which combination will give the results I’m looking for. I would prefer not to push the power band too far up in the rev range as I don’t want to change the stock crank and I’m not looking for a peaky screamer. I’m not huge but I’m not small either at 220lbs. so I would like a build that makes good torque form low revs. I’m also not concerned so much with top speed. If it could run 50mph that would be fine. If anyone has advice on cylinder, pipe, carb combinations as well as where to start with cvt tuning I would greatly appreciate it.

What's your budget ? Remember first law of scooter tuning change one thing at a time so if it performs worse you can retrace your steps
To get great acceleration and minimal cvt tuning Grab a sport level 70 cc bbk kit malossi or polini sport stage 6 street race top performance trophy these are all stock crank friendly and have a wide powerband so the cvt can be left as is
Run it this way for a couple tanks of gas so you get a feel for how a sttcok cvt feels with more power Then get a street pipe like wild lion polini speed ,tecnigas silent pro This will give you more power and have a very wide powerband that overlaps well with the above kits . You could leave the cvt as is or just get slightly stiffer clutch springs and a half gram or so lighter weights to make it spunkier You might have to up jet so you will need a couple jets
run it this way for at least a couple tanks of gas so you get an apreciation for your hard work and get a feel for how to upgrade the cvt to balance to the pipe and kit
Then upgrade the variator better shifting and higher gear ratio stick with the stock belt it works best .

Exactly what he said. It’ll feel like a completely different scooter. Way more acceleration & torque.

Thank you very much Zino, this is exactly the information I was looking for. I have a couple questions to ask. If I go with a sport level top end I can run stock carb? Just needs up jetting? Also, when I change to big bore will it be necessary to pre mix fuel? As far as budget I don’t mind spending a few hundred dollars here and there but I don’t want to get carried away.

here is a combo so you have an idea what you are looking at www.scootertuning.ca/en/299-engine-packageIf you were only to do one thing the best bang for the buck is just the 70 cc kit It will have you push mid 40's
