Or 50 to be exact. Picked up a 2009 Kymco People 50, for $50.
No title, kymco key. No start, heavy dirt. This baby has been sitting for atleast 10 years. Only 1100 kms, or about 700miles.
No spark. Multimetered the shit out of everything, couldn’t figure it out. Cut 2in off the spark wire to get contact there, fixed that, but still no spark.
Slept on it, it was the damn kill switch. On a dc bike, you want continuity for switch, on ac bikes you don’t. Rebuilt the switch, Learned something here, Fixed that, spark is good.
Finished cleaning the carb, got rid of the petcock with simple on off switch.
Put it back together, started right up. Still have to play with my settings and make sure I’m getting oil. Rode it home last night, pretty pumped!
It is kinda slow (like a 4T, takes awhile to get up to speed. Tried lighter rollers, acceleration was worse. Runs a lot like my 08 Zuma, feels kinda sluggish.
They both have cat-converter pipes. How terrible are these pipes? My other two bikes are 05’ and have regular simple exhaust. They both feel much faster.
So far, I have only $50 into this. All the parts I used so far I had anyway, so there is some room in the budget for a pipe and/or cylinder.
Suggestions welcomed!

The thing I remember about these is that they’re very picky about their carb settings. Factory settings are good.
There are (were?) 70cc BBKs that make these super fun.

Excellent purchase. You can't go wrong once you got it running for that amount. 👍

I hear you on this, I have a zx50 and an 1/8th turn on the air makes a noticeable difference. I think I have the carb right. I was able to put a slightly longer and wider belt on, and shinned the variator to get the belt to sit higher in the pulley. Definitely helps, but she is still sluggish. It is atleast fun to ride now, but nothing like my mostly stock zx50 or vino.

Excellent purchase. You can't go wrong once you got it running for that amount. 👍 I went up to my girlfriend, said I was buying another scooter, it’s only $50, and you can’t talk me out of it. Haha I’m into it another $49 because the stator part of the cooling shroud was missing. I was gonna say screw it, it’s still getting air across the motor, but I’m pretty partial to this bike now. Found the full shroud on eBay.
