thats what i meant by hard to crank. hard to start. crank=crankup=start.
this engine needs a valve adjustment and a good unseald properly jetted and adjust carb.

It has a plastic spacer under the rubber/metal intake 90* boot and a rubber oring gasket, it could one of them also if it wasn't assembled properly when "rebuilt".

well its best to remove the spark plug so the motor is easy to turn over by hand to line the marks up but yeah he is the man

uh oh. « Message sent Today at 1:57pm from JTweak » uhh, we finally got the valves adjusted...and its still not starting :/
Time for a compression test JT.
you need a compression gauge and a 10mm fitting for it.
did you inspect the intake manifold for cracks?

yes sir i did, and i don't have a compression guage, but like i said, once i put gas on the plug and put it back in, it starts fine...from the looks of it, im going to have to keep a jar of gas...a wrench and a plug socket with me at all times -.-

i don't think its a carb problem though, its a sealed carb yeah, but i took my dads unsealed carb and put it on mine for testing...didn't work...

A sealed carb is a problem waiting to happen. did you closely inspect the insulator spacer under the intake also? what you describe sounds like a massive vacuum leak....calm down a little and take a breath ok outside of the possible intake leak this is a matter of methodical diagnosis. It is time for a compression test because you might be beating on a dead horse. Even if it does have an intake leak doing anythign with that when it has low compression is wasted effort.

i just checked the spacer under the intake...no cracks breaks or anything..i guess i'll have to wait until we can afford to put some gas in the truck and haul it down to ace, or o'riellies to do the compression test. my dad said tonight we're gonna start taking break his engine down piece by piece and put the parts on mine until it starts, so we can find the problem that way, (i really dont wanna do that but i have hardly any say so in it) what could cause low compression? could it be because we gutted the exhaust? (i dont see that being the cause because it still runs when i put gas on the plug) but yeah... thanks so much 1fast for everything you've helped me with, i greatly appreciate it.
