turns out the 140psi went down to barely 120 when hot and it is very hard to crank...and hesitates bad going down the road.
putting some oil down into the cylinder then doing the compression test again brings it up to 160. this is the 3rd 2011 TaoTao i have seen with less than 1500 miles with low compression from rings. I was really hoping this one was going to be different lol. Wishful thinking. bummer.

Well since I have a lift here....it wont be so bad. Cant work on my knees. A piston and ring set is about $20...and a few hours labor. It cranks but is and always will be difficult. I could put 20w50 oil in it to make it crank easier because of the low compression but.....I cannot in good conscience pass a problem bike on to someone else so I am going to fix it right.

this is the 3rd taotao atm50 with low compression and low miles i have seen and all had sealed carbs. i wonder if they are so lean because of the wonderful and wise EPA crap they have to deal with that they are ruining themselves? My factory 72cc bikes have no EPA crap on them and unsealed carbs and I have not had any come back with low compression....(other than one guy who got muddy water down his carb). The EPA cracked down on those now and soon they will be sold out.
So a person pays $700 for a new TaoTao 50 and it goes for 1500 miles then needs a ring job and a carb ...seems to be the pattern i am seeing. Usually rather than do that you see them on CL for $500 'no start, near new'. So if you buy it for 400 or 500 then have to do a ring job and a carb you will have more in it than a new one. Only reason this girl let it go for $150 is because she was going back to France...but thats all its worth anyway since it needs parts, labor and will still have to be sold at a nearly new price to make this profitable. I dont think I will ever buy another unless its $50 lol
These would be ok if it wasnt for our wonderful EPA....but people drive those grossly huge Hummers that get 10mpg.....but the EPA has to make sure the little scooter that weighs 200 lbs has 50 lbs of EPA crap on it.
God Bless America.

Actually the ones that had low compression had already had a ring job once before i got ahold of it...and they still had the sealed carbs on them. those lean sealed carbs are killing them.

Hi I passed on the sundiro, even at $80 it was not a good deal for a road worthy scoot Besides the plastics and mirrors she needs variator and engine work, she ran but not very well She might have made a good off road vehicle but would never have been legal for use on the road with out lots of work I shall look for 2T project scoot thats in a little better condition Take care and ride safely Yours Hank

180psi with new piston and rings..and gets to 100psi on the 3rd revolution....starts right up..should be good to go now. too bad they ruin these 63cc motors with lean carbs. anything to get them CARB approved i guess....the to hell with the American who buys it....its American money they want and will do anything to get it. Its our own greed as a society thats gonna put China on top of the world.
