You will want to position the rings so the gaps don't line up with each other.

SO opposite of each other perhaps?
Also, the third thicker ring has openings on each side, any position relative to that?
It's left and right so maybe one main ring up and one down?

The rings are designed to rotate in use anyway to limit carbon build-up in the ring lands, so don't worry about it too much.

So the case is here and the hole for the shift tumbler is a little different. Looks like it will fit though so let's give it a shot! I believe this ATV was an automatic based on what I am seeing.
