That former cop on the state legislature isn't concerned with anyone's safety. It's money. Trust me, if there was no money to be made then it wouldn't be a consideration. Their state is broke and they don't like seeing people get on with their lives un-taxed. Of course its about the money, the same as those traffic cameras that some sheriffs in my state now want to install in their counties, the headline in the paper had a subtitle about the estimated $400,000-$550,000 in REVENUE they estimate the cams will bring from increased citations. They CLAIM its all about SAFETY and stopping red light running! but by the time the cam snaps the photo the driver has already gone THROUGH the intersection! What's worse, the company that makes the cams wants to install them FREE, and give the counties a cut of the money from the tickets. Naturally since they own and maintain the cams, how hard is it to imagine they can manipulate the software to clock people driving at a slower speed, claim it's faster than it is, and thereby increase their profits??

NC has mandatory helmets for everyone where SC its optional after 18 or 21 . I have seen some on scooters that are a hindrance to other drivers or impaired but most are not and I hate ignorant ( censored ) who think we all are drunkards

Their state is broke and they don't like seeing people get on with their lives un-taxed. Thats for sure. And even if they were worried about your safety...its your ability to pay taxes they want to safeguard. if youre dead you cant pay.

I tried that once in Vermont on an old VW bug since I didn't want to do the state inspection and repairs and I was moving out of state within 1-2 months anyway. I dummied up a fake inspection sticker that looked just like the real thing and stuck it inside the windshield in the right place. I was driving home one late afternoon from work and got pulled over.
Cop reached in, pulled the sticker off and then wrote me a ticket for no inspection, defective equipment (he had me turn on all lights etc and found ONE bulb bad) and a third ticket for something else, and then told me the only way the car was going to move from that spot was tow truck. I said screw da police and dmv TOO since I was moving out of state anyway. 2 months later after having to bicycle the 10 miles each way a day trip to work I moved to Oregon and never gave it another thought. I lived there for about 12 years then moved to Iowa. I got my Iowa license and all was hunky dorry, but then TEN YEARS later I went to renew my 5 year driver's license a third time and I got flagged by the system and they said I would have to call the Vermont DMV to have whatever it was straightened out, and get a letter from them showing it was corrected, before they renew my license. I called the idiots at the DMV in Vermont and they told me there were 3 unpaid tickets from 1986- over TWENTY YEARS prior to my call!
The end result was, Vermont and Oregon had no reciprocal agreement, Vermont and Iowa had recently made a reciprocal agreement, and that was when they went back over OLD citations and violations and now Iowa's DMV would get the money for Vermont. I wound up having to pay the total original costs for all 3 tickets to Vermont, one was $225, another was $175 and I forget how much the 3rd was or what it was for, just some bs added-on ticket to run up the cost- that cop was on a MISSION for sure. It was all told around $400 I had to pay to a freaking state I never intend to go to or drive in again, to get my Vermont driving "privileges" restored, so I could renew my IOWA driver's license.
Ya THINK you can get away with crap like this but you DONT, it's guaranteed now that with all these agencies and DMV's now hooked up to computers, the internet and one another (wasnt the case in the 1980s) it's all but guaranteed once you are caught (not if) and you go in the system, they will GET their money out of you even if it takes TWENTY YEARS. The clerk in Vermont couldn't even find the tickets at first and had to go back into their old ARCHIVES to even pull them up, and meanwhile my license could not be renewed and it took 3 trips to the DMV and a week waiting on a letter in the mail from Vermont to be able to renew.
The states are looking for every wich way they can to screw people to get as much cash out of them as they can, the big push for red light traffic cams to "prevent red light runners and increase SAFETY, and reduce fatalities" proves it even more when right under the headlines of the "safety" part it mentions how much REVENUE the state expects the cams to rake in and what they plan to do with the MONEY. Of course those things are installed by a prive company free of charge to the state in exchange for a portion of the TICKET money, with the rest of the cut going to the state.

Well, the mudd just hit the fan here in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Since there is a scooter rental place on EVERY corner here for the tourists, the police have gone crazy. City wide speed limit is now 25 MPH for scooters, and they are citing people left, and right. I am fed up with the BS, so I called the DMV and they said they could title my moped, but I could not get a tag for it. What the Hell? They will not treat it like a motorcycle! I want to get legal, tag, and insurance but they wont let me? So now my new hobby sucks @ 25 mph. I really love these 2T's, and had hopes of really getting into tuning them, but now I don't know.

That's likely too because the title says SCOOTER, mine did anyway, and if the title says "scooter" then I suppose they wont register it as a MC despite the vin plate, owner's manual, emissions being met and a sticker on the exhaust muffler on the TT50 anyway- using the word "motorcycle"

Tell DMV you wantto register your MOTORCYLE , do not say moped or scooter He may not have that open if the title says "scooter" on it as mine did, one option MIGHT be to somehow get a new title from the scoot maker that uses the term "motorcycle" on it instead of "scooter", I'm sure if they did that it would come with a FEE to do so.
