Thanks for the info and observations guys. I know you two and others here are a lot better at seeing exactly what's going on by the evidence, so for now I'm just trying to get the pics up.

You can really see it in the 80:1 runs.. Wear and build-up that is.
Great tests! Great idea!

Looks like the trend continues, more build up under piston top, lots more in the upper ring groove, and scuffing gets worse with leaner oil mix too..

It seems the wrist pin just got progressively worse as time went on. I don't think it really tells us much. It would have been nice to replace the needle bearing each time, but I'm just one broke dude, not a test lab. lol Here's a look at the wrist pin bearing at the end of all tests. I also think that the coloring below the rings is from the piston being sanded over and over and the cylinder being honed over and over again as well. I did each as lightly as I could, but they're bound to lose material over time, plus wear in testing. If you look closely in some of the later cleanup pics, such as the one below, you can even see where the hone misses low spots in the bottom of the cylinder. 100 miles for 6 tests plus the couple of thousand miles that were on the cylinder to begin with are on the cylinder. Average Cruise RPMAMSOil Sabre Professional @ 40:1 = 8800-9100RPM AMSOil Sabre Professional @ 50:1 = 8700-9000RPM AMSOil Sabre Professional @ 80:1 = 8500-8800RPM AMSOil Sabre Professional @ 100:1 = 8500-8800RPM Havoline TC-W3 @ 40:1 = 8700-9000RPM Maxima Scooter 2T @ 40:1 = 8800-9100RPM

A Great test!Huge effort!!THANKS!!!As Reg said(about the Stihl syn oil),it looks like Amsoil tops the bunch(40-50 to 1),Maxima Scooter looks like it protected the engine, but some crud build up..Havoline takes last place due to crud and scuffing.. :2cents: Tried to send some Maxima 927(synthetic castor) with the gears for a test, but wouldnt fit!!

Yes, thank you for all the tests. Are you done with them? If someone sent money for more tests for a particular oil would you do this again?
You know i was running/testing Mystik and kinda referred it in a way. But after seeing my engine after a teardown. Then again about 500 miles later i dont think i would strongly suggest Mystik. Its decent oil for the price @$20 a gallon but seems to cause carbon buildup fast and i know my injector is (was)mixing on the rich side. I plan on switching oils to something else affordable for my DD, just not sure on what oil yet? I just bought some TWC-3 Pennzoil Marine app stuff. Says its good for A/C apps as well. Some guys rode up with a sweet smell to their 2T,s and i loved it. Asked what oil and that what there said. I couldnt believe it but figured for the price, its worth a shot?..

A little more info. Not sure how much it's worth, but I had it noted so I'll share.
Piston Ring End Gap
Before AMSOil 40:1 (1st test) : .011", .-012" After AMSOil 40:1, Before AMSOil 50:1 : .015", .019" After AMSOil 50:1, Before AMSOil 80:1 : .017", .023" After AMSOil 80:1 : .031", .037" Switched to another used set of rings from the last piston (ruined by circlip area failure). Before AMSOil 100:1 : .017". .019" After AMSOil 100:1, Before Havoline 40:1 : .022", .025" After Havoline 40:1, Before Maxima 40:1 : .026", .029" After Maxima 40:1 : I seem to have forgotten this one. I still have it all around, no use since, so I can check.
