Atleast for the minarelli, I have the proper variator locker, I dont have one for my other 2, and i'm not sure if they exist for them. As for the clutch, just have some one hold the rear break, or find a way to keep the rear brake squeezed

Since this Necro thread has been revived, let me add my 2¢.
I think it's a bad idea to jam anything in the cylinder. You're introducing forces (not to mention foreign material) that is placing a non distributed force on the piston, and likely camming the piston on one side. That could damage a ring, at least.
If you want to do this with just rope, you're better off running it around inside the front pulley with a clove hitch or two and several turns often that counterclockwise. Then tying off the other end to the rear shock or around the back of the case. You're using it as an ad hoc strap wrench close to the center of rotation. There will be slack that needs to be taken up, but eek much better than putting stuff in the cylinder.
Better not to have to MacGyver the situation at all.

If one must mention old things... The rope in the cylinder technique has been in use for around 100 years in internal combustion engines with no problems I have ever heard of, unless you count the few times idiots did it with a 4T engine on other than the compression stroke and bent a valve.
