My EYES! Just kidding, I really like them. I want some fluorescent orange ones myself.
I read an article on "correctly" powder coating stuff and the prep procedure was exhausting. One thing mentioned was putting them in the oven for a while then pulling them out to remove all masking and returning them to the oven to finishing baking. That is how you get the nice smooth edges.
At least they kept it out of the splined area, that would have been a PITA

those wheels came out really nice.
there's a posting on Craigslist (Oahu) for a whole lot of Vento 12" wheels. I think it's like 30 rims for $100. makes me want to get a 12" wheel scoot now after seeing how your rims turned out.
in regards to your new case half, are you going to trench that half case? maybe weld build up externally before trenching? or Muggy Weld build up? if that half case is virgin, less worries in regards to oil in the porosity of the casting.

I like the bright wheels, if you didn’t get noticed at the beach before you sure will now. If I ever redo mine I’m going for something bright.
Didn’t the Vento’s have center caps? See if you can locate one if your worried about that area but some wet sanding should take care of that quickly.

I always tossed them because I thought they were dumb or they fell off on their own. I think it will look fine once sanded. Bright side is that I don't have to worry about messing up the coating by installing the nut.

in regards to your new case half, are you going to trench that half case? I bolted the cases together to see how bad the mismatch was. Pretty close! Blended this area. The 90cc case was slightly smaller in the crank area than my modded 49cc case half. I didn't bother to setup the cutter for it. I just used a burr and a drum and worked till they matched up. I marked the base gasket that was matched to the cylinder on the case. This is all that it was off. Trenched. Could use more smoothing, but that can come later. Didn't break through as bad as the old case. Pretty similar to the big case half. Cleaned, roughed and filled. Finished that up at about 10PM. I'll try to blend that at some point and get that mixture headed toward the cylinder.

Those wheels really pop. There should of been a warning before I scrolled down! 😆 That's not a bad match on the cases. Probably as good as you would get buying two different China cases.

I had just installed a new seal on the CVT side before the cases came apart, so I thought I'd try leaving the seal in. To my recollection, I've never tried leaving a seal in during crank install. Turns out, it's s bad idea. The seal folded while I was pulling the crank in (also decided to not use hot and cold only and use my install tool). So now instead of 2 seconds to knock it out, I've got to do it the hard way with the engine together. Oh well. Now I know I'm not doing that again.

I hate getting seals out with screws. But it sure beats splitting the cases again. I can't remember if it's the old vespa, or lammies but you have to split the cases to change seals. That would drive me nuts!

Psst... surgeon general warning says forgetting gear oil could be damaging to your gearbox’s health. I never drained it, but thank you. I was thinking I may change it anyway. I wet sanded the center section of the rear wheel at the powder line to get rid of the sharp edges. Then I wanted to clean up the drum that they coated. Even 80 grit wasn't doing much to the coating there. It certainly was coming off, but it would have taken a very long time to go all the way around the drum and clean it up like that. I used a drum sander (appropriately named in this case) in the Foredom to speed it up and then went over it with sandpaper. Got the rear tire mounted. I prob should have thought this color through. I like it. It's really cool in person... but holy crap does it get dirty if anything dark gets 2ft from it. After 10-20 miles the rear wheel will probably only be irritating to onlookers instead of painful.

You should get a neon yellow tire pen and make the tire letters the same color as the rim, or maybe white

You should get a neon yellow tire pen and make the tire letters the same color as the rim, or maybe white Had to go to 3 stores just to find white this morning, but I'm glad I did. I like it. Thanks for the idea. Only 1 side of 1 tire done ATM. Then I wanted to get the wheel magnet glued onto the front with JB Clear. I propped the wheel up so that the rim where the magnet mounts was level. That way the epoxy won't run while it cures. I also grabbed some neon yellow spray paint this morning. I figured I'd make the spare wheel that ryan_ott gave me match the others to some degree. Worst spray paint I have ever used. No exaggeration. What you see is 4 coats and about 1/2 a can, and I didn't even do the other side of the wheel after the first coat. It sprayed out incredibly fine, to the point that the fine mist appeared to engulf a huge area of the garage. Terrible coverage. There are runs now from me trying to coat it heavy on the 4th coat. At this rate, it would take at least 1 more can to just do this wheel. It never bothers to say this on the can, but I think you would need to start with a bright metal or a white or maybe yellow base coat. It definitely does not cover well. I quit with it just as you see for now.

You may of just had a bad nozzle on that can, swap to one from another can. It’s happened to me before. Or that might just be a transparent top coat. Try a silver or white base on some scrap material and see what happens.
The lettering looks very nice.
