The old wrist pin bearing looked OK. No problem I could see, but it's got plenty of miles on it. I think it's best to replace the wrist pin needle bearing with BBK installs or with major mileage freshen-ups.
I rode for 25 miles on the Sunl with my father on T2 last night. Other than the 25MPH (SunL limited) stretches it was nice.

I pulled out the extra base gaskets and got compression up to about 180. I stuck the tuned pipe from T1 on to give it a shot. It's not exactly ideal since the pipe's header is about 4mm bigger than the port. I went 1/4 mile and it never hit the pipe. Not as slow as T1 was, but not really hitting either. I'll try lighter rollers at some point and see what happens.

I got the scoot tuned for the pipe a little better with the help of some 5.8g rollers (was using 7g). I re-jetted and ended up getting up to 57MPH at 10,000RPM. It's been making quite a lot of noise lately, and I thought it was just the lack of guides in the variator. I replaced those and it's still making a metal on metal type of sound. Really loud, really unhealthy sounding. I checked everything in the trans and starter system and made srue nothing was hitting the flywheel. I pulled the spark plug and realized I could really hear the clunking sound when I turned the engine over with the plug out. Oh boy. It seems like the play in the conrod has gotten even worse in just the little time it's been ran since I re-did the top end (<100 miles). There's plenty of side to side play, and now up and down play. I also noticed glitter in the oil residue left in the cylinder. Looks like T2 is down for a bit too. Hopefully I can get the SunL going soon so my father's got something to ride. He was off today and will be off through Sunday and wanted to ride while he could. Figures.

Time for a GOOD crank? Lets see what these suckers run like at 12,000+RPM???

The scooter gods seem unkind of late. Good tune and steady running seem elusive to many of us here the last week or two. Mother nature and Eros have not been kind either. The Red Bullet quit on me Wed. night on my way home from my Son's house. My aux. gas tank (formerly my oil tank) some how mysteriously emptied itself although it was shut off and I could find no leak after refilling??? Anyway, wound up jerking the carb and cleaning it out. Still not wanting to run, I pulled the plug and found it pretty black. Cleaned and filed and regapped it to a little over 0.6mm....still wouldn't rev out on top. Raised needle from next to bottom to next to top position (four grooves total) and better but still not clean on top. Rode it briefly but tank top and shorts too cool to really test it and it was supper time and dark. I've been off the forum for a couple of days due to making a 500 mi. trip to my Daughter's college for an awards ceremony and spending the night. Hope the road smooths out for us all although my bumps seem pretty minor compared to many others here.

Time for a stockish 45mm crank is what I'm thinking... and not even time for that yet ($). I really like T2 as a daily rider. It's been the fastest of all my scoots, but it's also been the most practical, the most reliable, and the best riding and handling of them all. I really don't wanna do a ring bustin' build on it. My clyinder is "universal" (allegedly 42-45mm stroke IIRC) so it would probably work out. The piston doesn't clear the ports at BDC with one base gasket. That's why I used 3 this last go round, then took them out because compression was low. Sounds like it will work well with just a little more stroke. I had thought of the 47mm... but that's more money and more problems. EVERY time I think I'll have everything running at once this happens to me. I really thought when I got T1 going that I might have 4 scoots up and running. Yeah, right. It's a good thing I got the Murdertrain (Venus) or I woulda drove a truck (yeah, that's right, a truck) to a friend's house this morning on a sunny 60 something degree Saturday. Thanks to the new blood I took a greatly enjoyed 45 mile scooter ride instead. I will admit though, 20-25MPH winds and a truck full with sod and grass clippings passing me right where I got hit with a hay bail on T2 did give me some unpleasant flashbacks!

lol
Got this from Moped Hospital in regard to the 45mm stroke 52mm Airsal kit...
"That cylinder kit is only available for the 42mm stroke at this time and we should have it in about 2 weeks.
It is a single port and not bridged. The head is a solid machined billet and not cast.
The piston is a single ring.
It is not a race cylinder but many tuners have had it ported and used it in the mini quad races.
Airsal made it to be a good reliable trail use cylinder that could still be used with the stock exhaust/carburetor if needed.
In short it is in my opinion a very good base to build off of without breaking the bank.
We do expect the 45mm stroke liquid cooled Extreme cylinders in our next shipment. The price is 380.00.
Steve "
Damn. I was really hoping it'd be just like the T6, but hugeified.

So, what do you think? Tune it for 9000 and up gear it a little? Probably be a reliable, solid 60mph machine then?

Got the old crank out. Pressure-washed the cases (and inadvertently myself) to get the grease and grime off.

I saw my uncle run a pressure washer right across his finger one time. The thing was in high pressure mode at that. Ya know when you can cut wood with em, or write in concrete. It cut his finger right open! OUCH! Every time i think of that i wince! He said it hurt worse than any cut he had ever had... Glad you got it apart. Next one i do, im thinking about painting the cases with this cool textured stuff i found.

At least it cleaned the wound.
What textured stuff is that? A friend of mine used to like Hammer-something that rustoleum made. He painted all sorts of stuff with it and said it held up well.
I did some measuring. The cases are just over 79mm inside and the crank is just under 78mm. For comparison, 49cc cases are roughly 74mm ID and the crank is about 72mm.

I used the Hammered stuff on my kickstand and the kickstarter...Looks good and seams tuff. The other stuff i got is called Rustoleum Multicolor Textured. Its kinda like sandpaper to the touch. Made me wonder if it would dissipate heat better because of the textured surface?

How did the crank bearing 'seats' look? I have never seen or heard of anybodies motor doing what Skeedr,s original motor did. Beat the seats outta the case, but left the bearing just fine....
