Perhaps it is an airbox issue,I think the Mikuni VM22 should be large enough to run 100cc's.I sure like the quiet sound of the stock airbox though..

I took another look at the stock airbox. I have my doubts on that theory after a quick check too. The air inlet seems fine at nearly 26mm. The outlet is about 1mm shy of the inlet of my 19mm Arreche. IIRC your setup shoudl be fitting over the mouth of the carb though with no restriction at that point. I can always slap an open filter on there long enough to see if I rev higher all of the sudden. While I'm at it, here are the two different CDIs... not that it matters since they worked the same. lol

I took a very brief road test with an open air filter and the stock airbox to rule one more thing out. I revved to about the same either way. It ran just slightly harder with the UNI filter, but I never changed jets and it's tuned a bit rich on the safe side with the stock filter. While I was doing that, I made a quick vid for the folks considering switching to an open filter to show the noise difference. (Yeah, I know the filter is nasty. It's what I had just lying on the work bench.) It'll max out the tach on the stand. I just uploaded it, so it will take a few to process.

I LOVE the sound of a good running 2T in the morning ... Sounds tuff to me! I like the open filter . Good idea running the back to back vids to compare ;D. My buddy J says Skeedr sounds like a chainsaw on steroids ripping down the street :riding: . Did you ever check the vents on your other carb (carbs)? I clogged mine once and the engine died almost right away. Well i didnt really plug it on purpose, i was trying to make a "catch can" and sorta plugged em with it It was fooling for a bit because there was still fuel in the line

No, I never checked the other carb too much. I mainly just inspected the float/jets.
I too like the sound of the open filter... but not all the time.

My Phongeer pipe and a 270mm adjustable rear shock should be shipping from VT Cycles within a day or two! ;D Till then, the Venus is just sitting. I wanted to ride it, but hate to ride much without rear turn signals and if I put the fairings on the exhaust is gonna mess one of 'em up. I got the pipe and the shock for $230 shipped. They told me PayPal takes more money than their credit card provider, so I sent an extra $5. Then they gave me a free set of 2K clutch springs and an exhaust gasket. :thumb:

COOL!I started to think our pipes may be the limiter on these 100cc builds, now I guess we'll see soon...

The only thing that would be odd if it revved higher with the new pipe, is that it revved to 10,000 (under load, not just on the stand) with the Leo on T2. I really don't know what it is. I've tried the CDI, the air filter, and soon another pipe. If it's not those the only thoughts I really have left are a larger carb and intake. Do you have a larger intake with your 22mm? If not, you still only have a 19mm passage in the stock intake. Again, I revved higher with T2 and my same carb/intake setup, but perhaps different engine specs are affecting what we need? I was gonna say maybe it likes to be under load (kinda like a turbo) and my gears are not letting it... but you have longer gears and besides that it shoulda revved higher with heavier rollers in that case and the only time it's revved higher is not under load. Maybe the ignition or port timings are off, but I don't really think so. I don't have the paper still, but I think my ports open and close timings were right about where T2 was, other than the difference with the longer transfer duration. My timing supported a 70cc revving higher too, so I doubt that's it.

I opened the intake when the carb was installed, even going down a steep hill the RPM's would not climb any higher!I'm thinking about cutting the spacer a bit shorter on the pipe, but will wait to see what your new pipe does first..

I got the Phongeer pipe and the new shock in from VT Cycles the other day. I started out with the rear shock swap. Here's the new shock and the old shock. Before After I like the rear shock. If I try to put it as stiff as it goes, I don't think it even moves with me on it. I leave it as soft as it can be set and it is still way better than the stocker. The only bad thing is that after having a decent shock on the rear, you realize how crappy the fron suspension is. lol The Phongeer pipe is a nice piece. A big header diameter and a thick sturdy flange. The whole pipe is heavy and feels like it's built to take some abuse. Here's the ZX's header next to the Phongeer. The gasket that VT Cycles gave me is a nice piece too. I need more of these. My only complaint with the PG pipe is that it didn't line up just right. I expected it to be spaced out far, as discussed earlier in the thread. That's no big deal. The problem with this one was that both mounting holes won't line up if the header is lined up properly. I made a bracket and drilled an extra hole in the Phongeer's mount to fix that problem. Not exactly a masterpiece, but it gets the job done. An 1/8 steel bracket and some steel tubing as well as a nut welded into one spot to allow me to bolt the PG's new hole up there. I actually had the pipe on last night, but just with the header and one other bolt. I couldn't resist a real quick test run of maybe a mile round trip. I still have the lighter rollers in the CVT to see if it wanted to rev higher or not. It did 53MPH @ 8600-8700 RPM before with the light rollers and just wouldn't push farther. It went 58MPH @ 8800-8900 RPM this time. It really doesn't seem to like being revved that high though. It will pull to 8500-8600 quick but any higher than that and it's creeping up in RPM. All around power feels better. I need the heavier rollers back, but it runs decent with even the light rollers. It actually revvs a little too high to pull hard though. I made a quick vid tonight of the sound and idle and messing around in the yard a bit. I let off most of the time in the vid when it came up, and when I didn't let off you can hear it kinda revving past its peak powerband. I have been having some issues with cold starts (always have with the Arreche). I looked into a manual choke for it, and it's only $30 so I ordered that. For some reason I always thought it was more or I woulda had it long ago. I still need to check the tune with the new pipe as well.

;D That looks fun :riding: ! Now if i could just get you to place two fingers on the rear brake lever and kinda straigten your back...K, now twist the throttle again and ride that sucker out buddy, you got the power to wheelie now :burnout: Looks good to me  Wish i could take that lil sucker to the track  Im glad the new exhaust is working good for you. I love the stock look

If you look back to page 1, then jump here, it's amazing what you have done. The Venus started out looking so inocent and harmless, LOL.

;D That looks fun ! Now if i could just get you to place two fingers on the rear brake lever and kinda straigten your back...K, now twist the throttle again and ride that sucker out buddy, you got the power to wheelie now I'll have to work on that. Even with my wheelie monster midbike, I never used technique really. I've always used power. The only technique I had to use on the midbike was throttle control. With that thing, too much and you flip over and too little you come down quick. The Venus isn't up to that power level just yet lol. I'll have to get the rear brake working. It's hooked up but so far out of adjustment that it does literally nothing. I forgot to finish adjusting it when I put the motor back in, and for some reason I never have done it yet. It's quite fun trying to get slowed down from almost 60 with just a front drum. lol

I'm with Goosie. You sure have worked a miracle with that sow's ear. Beware Preston and nearby Eastern Shore communities. The big guy on the tiny scooter is ready to display his taillights to you. Fun, fun, fun to come. :riding:
