I had the ball bearing base also, took it off as 2strokd mentioned to me that maybe the clutch wasn't able to open all the way. Sure enough... also the spring was longer and couldn't compress enough to open the pulley all the way.

The 70cc Streetrace has been running like a champ with this bigger pipe. That is until tonight on the way home. Out of nowhere it soft seized on me when I was doing about 45 - 50. That can be sketchy when it happens at night, in traffic, and your lights go out. I let it cool off on the sidewalk and it started back up so I rode it a little further, and it seized again. I let it cool a bit longer before starting it again and I made it the 1/2 mile home without seizing it again. Not sure what is going on, but it squeaked briefly the second time I started it back up. I guess it is likely I have been lean since I put the much larger pipe on. I did not even bother to up jet, and I guess it has caught up with me.

Not sure what the temps are like there, but if it's cooled off much that wouldn't help.

Was that the new piston?

Nope! I was hoping to get a chance to look at it today, but so far I have been running service calls all day, and just got another. Damm work! I have a ride I am supposed to go on tomorrow with a bunch of riders to the chile cook off. Not crazy about chile, but I DO love to ride! Looks like I may be riding the Zuma @ 34 MPH. Sigh

I finally got a chance to work on the 70cc this evening. I checked compression, and it was 135, down from about 170 I think. So I pulled the top end to take a look. I guess it was lean for a while and started to four corner a bit. The cylinder looked to be in pretty good shape. I used the ball hone for about 30 seconds to freshen it up. I have a new piston kit to put in, and since I have the thing apart, I think I will replace the crank while I am at it. The current crank has always had a vibration associated with it. For some reason the splines were not ground to spec because I had a hell of a time installing anything on that side of the crank I had to file everything. I recently picked up a Motorforce Evoltion crank from forum member Corrosion that I will be installing. I am also going to tweak the durations to hopefully make the cylinder work better with the larger pipe I am using. I definitely gotta up jet the carb a bit!

RATS! So I am prepping the cases, and looking at everything and realized both new 70cc cranks I have are small on both sides. I need a large on both sides crank. Somewhere, I know I have a small starter clutch, and a small Hoca variator, but I am not so sure about a small flywheel.
Is there a difference between stators for the large and small flywheels, or are they interchangeable?

Stators are the same.

If you don't, I'm pretty sure I have one squirreled away.

I found a small taper flywheel, So I have everything I need now.
I need to pick up a flywheel puller. Do these use the 27mm by 1?

what jets were you running in the lean condition?

The small taper flywheel threads I got from Sitticuss are the same as my large taper.

what jets were you running in the lean condition? Don't know for sure, 96 main? I will have to take a look. The small taper flywheel threads I got from Sitticuss are the same as my large taper. Now that you mention it, the threaded stub on the new crank looked much smaller than the one on the large one. What size is the small one?

a 96 main and you were running lean? Do you live in the mountains?
Our builds are quite similar. The only difference is I'm using rollers. The BBK I got isn't "stage 6" but I'm fairly certain it's iron, def not aluminum.

I'm not sure what the crank threads are. He sent a nut with the flywheel but the puller worked for both. I'm not home to check for you. If you don't have an answer by the end of the day I can pull the shroud and check.
