I'm going to do surgery on my carb here in a few minutes, And I'm frozen with fear in taking it apart. I have no clue what I am doing, even after watching hours of rebuilds on youtube and reading tons of info here it still gives me the willy's. Does anyone have any tips or can mention any tricks of the trade in actual removal and assembly so I don't muff this up? Thanks

Relax and take your time. I did one on a Honda xl175 for my brother he swore it was the carb. He was paying me with beer so I took it apart and cleaned it and put it back on, no start they swore I did something wrong so I did it again.and again and again etc, he was buying the beer. about the twelfth time and 18th beer I put the float in upside down lol then he figured out he didn't have any spark filed the points turned the float over in the cleanest carb you ever saw and was off

Best tips I can give you beyond any tech advice you may have read would be : - Take your time.
- Pay attention.
- Don't lose anything.
It's not as bad as it it seems at first. If you get into trouble or have a doubt about something, ask and maybe post pics and we should be able to help you through it.

I'm a natural procrastinator so taking my time will be easy, It's Paying attention and not losing anything that will be my downfall, lol! Is my best bet to disassemble everything? Take the whole carb apart? And I saw somewhere to blast every nook and cranny of the carb with carb cleaner is that true? Finding my exact carb model has be a hindrance also. Thanks guys

Unreal! As soon as I headed out to my garage --->(front porch...In an apartment, lol!) it started raining. I love my luck. I think I will have that beer now, lol!

You don't really need to disassemble every bit of it for your issue. Prob just deal with the bowl area. If you wanna clean it all, then sure. Compressed air and carb cleaner in all passages to clean it out.

Its really not that bad. In the bowl area, the parts to watch out for are the gasket and the float valve. If the float valve is not in place correctly you'll either get overflow of gas, or possibly no gas at all into the carb. The floats need to be able to open and close that valve.

Can anyone tell me how to get this floatbowl off? It has round heads with no openings for any tools.

I couldn't get the bowl off, its one of those tamper proof carbs, soooo stupid! Any I ended up banging the crap out of it and loosened the fuel bowl! You have to love THORG mechanics, when in doubt just bang on it, lol! Not one drop came out of the over flow and its running like a CHAMP! Thanks guys!!!

Float was sticking most likely. Bad news is, I'd want to pull it apart to check it if it were mine. It may be fine and never stick again though. At least keep a screwdriver or whatever you need to tap the float bowl in the scoot in case it happens again.
You can cut grooves into those tamper proof screws and try to use a flathead screwdriver on them. You can use vise grips to try and grab the heads. You can drill them out. Some just replace the whole carb with one that isn't sealed for the EPA's approval.

You were spot on when you said floats! Awesome man! Yes I don't like that I can't get in to that bowl. And I also bet it will happen again also I'm going to take your advice and get those things out of there and replace with some good American hardware. Regardless, you guys are the best for helping me through it. I owe all of you a beer Thank you!
