Hi everyone, I got my new tach in the mail, installed and it works. I don't know how accurate though. I idle at about 2000 rpms start moving at three. get to an easy 45 km/h at 8000 and when I am WOT about 10,000rpms, The maximum I saw it hit was 11,000rpm, WOT going up hill. Does it sound accurate? here is my scoot Hyosung Super Racing 50cc 2T Morini engine open air filter drilled out main jet (0.8mm) 669x18 CVT belt (oversized by 2mm length 2mm width) 4.5 gram Dr.Pulley sliders. (under weight by 1.5 grams) Top speed 65km/h
I really want to go back to my longer belt 680x18 but seems to slip at lower speeds. I expect I need to run heavier weight to get the rpms down a bit. I also still have the ring that hold in the ramp plate on the back of the variator. Will I get a bit more travel if I remove that? Perhaps then I won't need to run the longer belt.

11,000 RPM sounds like a lot to me for a non-piped stock engine, but I'm not familiar with the Morini engines. Again,. I'm not familiar with the ring in the variator. Is it just a washer? If a washer is placed behind the ramp plate it should push the variator farther inward, which would be more likely to increase top speed. If a washer was placed in front of the variator, between the drive boss and the fixed plate, it would separate the two pulley halves more to allow the belt to travel lower in the variator and increase takeoff. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=transtech&action=display&thread=625&page=1

Red, remove that ring on the back variator plate; it is an unnecessary restriction.

Jimh: Is there no problem removing that ring? The weights won't be flung out of the ramp plate will they? Is your ring out? 90: It's a ring that is about the same size as the variator. It is screwed onto the variator and it keeps the ramp plate from coming out.
I may have set my Tach wrong. It has 3 settings. <Setting1> Spark plug fires twice per revolution, <Setting 2> once per revolution and <Setting 3>once every two revolutions, or it could just be wrong.

2 strokes fire 1 time per revolution.

Its ok to remove the backplate on your vari. 11,000 is too high for a stock Morini IMO. If mine spun that high it would be "wasting power" above 8,000rpm. Might be the way the tach was set???

It was on setting 1! Two fires per revolution. I went to setting 2 and my rpm doubled. It could be a shyte gauge. It was only 20 bucks on fleabay!

It really should be once per revolution. No 2 stroke should be firing once every other revolution, that's how a 4 stroke works (although scooter 4Ts still usually spark every revolution). If it fired more than once every revolution you'd probably see 2 triggers on your flywheel instead of 1 like every other scooter I've seen.

Could it be the "antennae." I just wrapped it around the spark plug wire a few times and then tied it lightly. It crosses over it's self and it is not tight against the wire. Should I tape it on?
I'll test it again tomorrow and maybe go to my mechanic and see if he has something to verify or discount my numbers

SOOOOooo.... I still haven't tried taping the tach antenae to the wire, but I think I have a better reading now. I went to the carb and adjusted the mixture. I turned the idle screw out 1/4 and the rpm at idle went from 2000 down to 1500. I still start moving around 3000 I eased it back in till I was at 1800. I did the same for the high mix and brought my WOT top speed RPM down to 8800.

Oh and the tach is from china and written in poorly translated English, so the setting instructions are perhaps wrong. I guess that is a better explanation than my scoot firing twice per revolution. I think otherwise it is pretty close. It has a few seconds of lag, but I am pretty happy with it so far. cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170485655846

The reaction time is the biggest problem. Minor annoyances are the back comes off pretty easily. As long as it is accurate it is not a bad little unit, a bit ugly and bulky about an inch or more thick I don't know how or when I'll test it, but when I do this board will be the first to know.
You want see some pics or a vid of how slow it reacts??

I have that tach. I payed to much for it. Its on the Ape now. That thing reads pretty good but shuts on and off whenever it wants! I think Stepthru has the same tach with the same problem. I spent $40 for mine, $20 would be allot better. Old vid and pic lol! Yes, lets see the vid red! ;D
