Okay guys, I have been bitten by the modding bug. Being inspired by the will to go faster and of course by Brent and his Project TaoTao I have decided to turn my scooter Sally (2012 Tomos Nitro 50), into a project build for everyone to follow if they so desire and also because it will help me with troubleshooting later on as this is a record of everything I am doing to her. To start my first post I am going to cover all of the things I have currently done in order to get this thread up to speed: - Activated dummy lights that are made for European countries. - Installed a 12v power point - Installed a 100W Motorcycle Stereo system - Installed Orange performance CDI from Scrappydogscooters - Installed 45W/45W Blueish Headlight bulbs - Replaced Taillight Bulb - Switched over to Valvoline Synthetic 4T performance Motorcycle oil - Swapped out gear oil to higher quality stuff - Tightened rear drum brake line so that it provides more power to brakes and less dead zone Some of the things I have noticed about Sally which I actually figured out today for the most part. (Makes me even more happy with the dealer I got her from): - Already have Kevlar Bando Belt - Already have Vario Washer removed Plans for the near future: - 83mm BBK with Performance head and 64mm valves - Switch to turn off headlights completely - Switch to cut power to all accessories I have added (Power Port, Stereo, ect.) - Jet replacement - Dr. Pully Sliders and new Vario - New Torque Spring and clutch - Better tires possible Michelin w/ wheel balancing beads - Maybe paint rims orange to match body? - Possibly more things that I can't think of right now Hope you guys enjoy what's in store!

Bought the BBK today from eBay, seems to be a decent kit. I hope so because I don't want to spend more than I need to. I also bought two rocker switches from superbrightleds.com for the lights and accessories. It will be my first experience from both sellers, will post with my thoughts on them. BBK: HERERocker switches (blue version): HERE

Nice project, why would you want to turn your lights off?

Honestly the idea to be able to turn my lights off stemmed from a couple of things, one is that sometimes I want to be sneaky when pulling into a parking lot/ driveway at night. The other is that sometimes I park my bike at a friends house and we just chill and listen to music on the stereo I installed. So being able to turn the lights off would both save strain on the battery when it's at idle or if the bike is off and I am listening to music, along with not attracting bugs to the headlights when I am trying to just enjoy the music and hang with my friends/ girlfriend.

So an update is well deserved for Sally. So far I have just shy of 4,000 miles put on her. Unfortunately not much has been done since I last posted. School and work and life have put Sally on the back burner, only to be used as transportation.
I have installed the rocker switch to cut accessory power and have also installed an LED Underglow kit. I will post pictures of both once I get a chance to take them.
Winter was hard, my speedo needle broke and one of the cluster's lights burnt out.
I bought a 72cc big bore kit and tried to install it. ONCE AGAIN IT DIDNT FIT. Another 60$ wasted.
A week ago my rear fender broke off its mounts, =/
Yesterday however something unfortunate happened. I stopped at a light and when it turned green I pull the throttle and I hardly move! Once I made it home I let her cool and then took the cvt cover off. (I suspected it was cvt troubles because I heard the belt whining) The belt is not sitting high on the rear. I figure its the contra spring, once I get a hold of an impact wrench I will investigate further.
Plans for the immediate future: - Repair the CVT issue - Tune CVT with weights and then switch to sliders - Port match, clean and regasket top end
In all honest though guys, the bad luck with the BBK's really just makes me want to get rid of her and buy something I know I can put a BBK in. :{

What is it about the BBK that is not fitting?

The sleeve of the barrel wont fit down into the crank case. The opening in the crank case is not wide enough. =[

I didn't know that was still a problem with any recently made scoots. Used to be that many wouldn't fit 50mm bores, but even then the smaller bores worked fine. The cases can be clearanced to fit the larger cylinder, but either the cases need to be split and the crank removed or you would have to stuff the cases with rags to keep aluminum dust and chunks out of there and then flush the cases thoroughly after. The last thing you'd need is metal bits from the case in the bearings or scuffing up your new cylinder.
Might wanna measure the cases and the cylinders to see what you've got and what you'd need to have.

I have not got the urge to split the case yet. It seems everytime I take her apart I find another roadblock and Ive been discouraged for a bit. I'd stay away from TOMOS scooters because I talked with the dealer after the fact and he said he has the same problem putting BBK's in customers' scoots. I want to put the bbk in. Im just scared as shes my main transport to work. One car family is no fun. =/

What is the engine code on that? 1e39qmb or something else? There are some motors that are different 1e37 or something like that

Turns out it wasn't the contra spring after all.. It was the secondary slider. Somehow the pin that the slider face moves on melted a hole right through the metal cover. I'll post a picture tomorrow. Too late right now. So now I'm going to have to buy a new clutch assembly because I might as well replace it all.

So here are the pictures of the rear pulley that failed. Like I said, one of the pins that the torque driver slides on burned through the cover.

I've seen scuffing/scarring where the pins ride, but nothing major and not windowed like that for sure.

Yeah, I've looked around and haven't seen anything like it before. Oh well, new clutch assembly is coming tomorrow. Just an OEM clutch to hold me over. I don't know how you guys can do all of the upgrades and not have to sell a kidney. On another note, for sliders you go +1gram for the weight right? So if I have all 5g rollers I need to get all 6g sliders. Not looking to tune it too much right now just get it back to what it was before this mess.
