A friend of mine just added a prima pipe to his Rattler 2T and i took it for a spin today.
I guess since my scoot has a stock pipe that LOOKS like an expansion chamber i assumed that a REAL one would only be a marginal difference. NOPE! For the first time i get it when you guys talk about the pipe "hitting" at a certain rpm.
Turns out I LIKE hitting the pipe ;D
So now that i have to have one, how do I know which pipe to get?
I mean do you get the best pipe you can afford and then change the transmission to make the pipe "hit" where you want it to?
I guess i need to re-read some posts. This is gonna be fun!

A pipe will hit where it will hit pretty much. The roller and/or contra adjustment is to compensate for the loss of torque at low rpms that normally accompanies the design of the pipe. If your scoot is still at stock 50cc displacement it is usually a good idea to get a pipe that is suitable for a 70-72cc upgrade since the pipe usually whets your appetite for more acceleration and speed. I.e., hitting the pipe brings on addiction.... kinda sounds illegal doesn't it?

Thanks, i"m on a 70 kit and already well into my addiction. lol
On my scoot tonight i started really paying attention and it feels like things get a little "lazy" around 75K. That would be where i would love a new pipe to kick in.
My friend's scoot felt like it actually shifted into a passing gear when it hit. Very impressive.

The pipe really does make a huge difference. I like to play with it and try to keep the rev's right at the point where the pipe is starting to hit. The rev's jump pretty hard - when the pipe hits - so it's a bit fun.

If you look around on sites like SIP Scootershop and any others you can find with good descriptions, they will often tell you details about what the pipes are good for. Meaning, what RPM range, what type of kit (sport, race), and other useful info.

A Leo would be ok i guess, but thats were everyone goes. Be cool to see you get a good match up with your 70cc. I know Reign is happy as hell with his Yasini R. I can speak for my C-16 clone that Mr.190mech built. When i got the right set-up(pretty much the same as you, Sport kit) that pipe became my best friend REAL quick! I would honestly have to say go with Yasini.. They are a bit more $, but so much more pipe than the Leo Vince and Technigas standard. BTW, glad to hear you finally hit the pipe Tim

Sorry I'm a little late to the pipe party If you feel like spending the cash, go with the Yasuni. You won't regret it. I paid $270 for mine, straight from Europe. I just had Jeremy import one for me. Be prepared to wait at least a month for it to come though. Otherwise, I was pretty happy with my Leo too. If you're looking for the pipe to hit in the higher RPM's, I wouldnt go with the Yasuni R like I got. It's made for lower RPM's. The Leo was good in the upper RPM's, and the C-16 should be good up there too.

Thanks those details really help. After my 150 mile ride in the Ozarks hills yesterday that low end kick sounds like just what i need. I'm pretty happy with my speed in the flats and down hill but if i can't carry a lot of momentum into a climb i get killed. A power boost around 5 or 6 K would be perfect. My friend with the new pipe who started all this was on our ride. He is as heavy as me and still on a 50, but that pipe would push him right by me on every hill. Then i would pass him on the down and on the flats till we did it all over again on the next hill. Gave me a lot of practice passing in the fast corners. You know i'm all about the MotoGP fantasy.

Ok i spent about an hour talking to my "dealer" about my new addiction.
The cool thing is that he owns the best scoot shop in the area AND is a dedicated member of my scoot club. He has watched me ride and my scoot run on a couple of long twisty rides now. He talked me into a little more conservative approach on a Leo Vance and spending some money on sticky rubber. He is right that i am taking way too much speed into the turns for the stock rubber and i guess he doesn't want to have to clean me out of the trees. He makes a good point. LOL
I'll update with specifics when we place the order next week. It should all be in and on in time for my vacation in 2 weeks. WoHoooo!

Good call. They were the first ones we looked at. I love the look of those.
But we settled on another model built a bit more for corners. He runs the Boppers on his son's Ape and these other ones on his Ape. Got so sidetracked helping my friend buy his Blackjack i forgot to get the paper where we rote everything down. I'll get the list next week.
