The last 5 days i have been editing about 10 mind numbing hours a day. So my reward today was to take my baby out to OPS because my NEW PARTS ARE IN! Michelin Pilot tires and TECNIGAS RS pipe. Also free flow filter, jets and weights as needed. Riding my Venus for the next day or so till they have it all sorted. Just in time for the finish of my project and the long weekend. And yes the next video will have SOUND!!!!

Sweet! Never seen Michelin Pilots like that. My Pilots were Pilot SC and had a less aggressive tread pattern than that.

The shop owner runs these on his Aprilia and loves them. He sure out corners me on our rides so that is a good sign.

If you remember, lemme know what type of Pilots those are. I might have to try those out.
EDIT : They look like Michelin Pilot Powers, but those don't seem to be sold in scooter tires.

I think you are right. What ever Pilots they are they sure were sticky to the touch. And nice and FAT. The other thing we talked about today is that they put the 70 kit on and tuned it up before when the temps were about 45 and dry. Now i'm riding in 90+ and very humid conditions. Much better tuning wether for riding in MO.

Yeah. Just be careful going back to those cold temps because it'll be lean compared to the 90 degree days. It should be OK as long as they jet slightly on the rich side, but it sounds like you are in good hands.

Yup. The guys are a nice mix of enthusiasts but realistic about dependability. They know i like to be able to jump on and go for those 150 mile long runs. Really lucky to have them a 20 min ride away.

On the way out i finally logged my speeds an specific hills and flats so i can verify what my real gains are. I don't want to rush their tuning, but i'm still checking my e-mail and cell every 5 min hoping it is ready.

Well things didn't go exactly as planned.
First the Tecnigas pipe would not fit, no way, no how.
So he put on a Leo Vince that he had in stock. Messed with all the variables and the best the scoot would do was mid 30s. Would not make power AT ALL!
So he went through it all agin with a Prima pipe. No love!
Checked the plug, checked compression, all good.
So he ended up cleaning out and and repacking my stock pipe. (He said it was very kludged up) Did a new tune with that. Settled on 5g rollers.
Net result with a cleaned out stock pipe - 8500rpm used to put me at 38mph, now it gets me to 45. But my top end on the flats is still 48mph (now at only @9100rpm). So it is faster at lower engine stress but not any quicker getting there and no more top end.
Hypothesis 1: The carb just can't support a bigger pipe so i will have to do a carb first or both together.
Hypothesis 2: Since it is getting to high 40s at (relatively) conservative rpm there may be value to working on the transmission. Different variator or clutch or? On this one i am way out of my depth.
Finally can i just say how amazing it is to have a local shop that will test out 3 different pipes ON my scoot and go through all this tuning work and not charge me a dime for it!!! His exact words were "I'm not going to charge you for something that didn't work". Made me happy i was at least buying new tires and rollers.
The tires are Pilot Sport TL BTW. Look like the SCs but according to Amazon about $12 more, what ever that means.
So...new carb?

I wouldn't think you'd NEED a carb with a 70cc kit (short of something racey) and pipe. T1 ran for thousands of miles with the stock carb, MRP pipe, MRP 70cc, and other stuff. My Venus is running now with a stock carb, Polini Sport, MRP pipe, and more. I'm wondering if maybe he should have went down in roller weight and/or up on the contra stiffness. he probably knows what he's doing, but if you put a pipe on and your weights are too heavy it will be sluggish. You lose power compared to the stock pipe when you are outside of the pipe's powerband. I used to use 4g rollers with my setup as well as 1000-2000RPM contras depending on what I wanted it to do at the time.

Hmmm. I think he tried several weights in it and a 1500 contra so seems like it shouldn't have been so far off that it would not go over low 30s?
He went back to the 5g rollers when he had to go back to the stock pipe. Do the current speed vs rpm tell us anything?
Also what size carb are you running? I think he said mine is a 13. Is that possible?
