Don't see what difference it makes either way as far a performance goes. Haven't done a rear-facing intake yet to know if there are easily appreciated seat of the pants gains, but the idea is that air and fuel droplets have momentum. A rear facing intake would do a little better job of aiming the charge at the transfers instead of at the crankshaft. Seems like it should be way more effective when paired with an intake with less of a bend and an angled reed block to get more of a straight shot from carb to transfers. So wouldn't having it facing forward force it in when you get up to speed? Or help it get through the bend of the manifold?

Maybe it would start making a difference you could tell at 70MPH or so... if the inlet is directly grabbing air. You could use tubing to pressurize an airbox at that rate and get a similar effect whichever way your inlet faces I'd think. If you look at some cars and sportbikes that have a ram air setup they often use tubing and scoops at the front of the vehicle rather than sticking an air filter out in the air.

got my donor engine in today and the rear rim.....Got stuck with 13 to 1 gears though. Now I have to sets of 13to1 long case gears. And one set of 13to1 short case gears......

I feel your pain!I searched forever for stock gears that were not 13.5 to 1 and finally ordered some Malossi gears,shame the 10 to 1 stock stuff isnt easy to get...

I wasn't able to find them either. Partsforchinesescooters didn't even know they existed. Had to go Malossi also.
