I don't really mess with craigslist much, but if you can add links I would suggest putting up links to your town and state where folks can locate their officials. Make it easier for people to contact who they need to contact and you may get better results.

The downside to all this could be legislation to erradicate 50cc scooters altogether or require they come under the same guidelines as motorcycles with registration, insurance, license, etc. Good luck with your endeavor...I used to belong to a motorized bicycle forum and a fellow from Arizona went through the same thing you are going through; jail time and the works. He fought the good fight but in the end faced bankruptcy, heavy fines and additional jail time and loss of his license by a heavy handed and corrupt judicial system. Please be careful, the b****rds usually don't want to play fair.

With a speed limit of 25 mph and the threat of loosing one's scooter and money for going one mile over it, there is no point at all to having a scooter. The day they do anything remotely like this in my state, is the day I sell my 50cc.

Yeah here in Cali you have to register it, you need an M-1 endorsement on your license and insurance for any scooter 50-150cc they are considered a "Motor Driven Cycle"

You need an M-2 endorsement to ride a moped with pedals and have to pay a one-time $18 registration fee.

Those little 2 stroke stand-up scooters with no seat require no reg. but you have to have a M-2 endorsement.

The cool part of all of it is that there is no mention of speed restrictions for any of them in the requirements so you can mod the crap outta your ride as long as you meet the requirements aforementioned.

Anyway, I think maybe Robert is going to get into more hot water with the local cops parading around with that sign. They can claim he's "Obstructing Traffic" or "Creating a traffic hazard by distracting other drivers" and probably a few more code violations that have clever wording. Be careful dude!

OK, so have the text put on a tshirt. I just can't see how you get in trouble for obeying the law. If it's a tshirt it's no more distracting than any other tshirt you could wear while riding. If you really think you will get in trouble, go over the laws carefully and be 100% sure you are allowed to be doing what your are doing and where you are doing it.

Here in MD the law does not retrict how fast the scooter is capable of going. it state that it should not be operated over 30MPH.

I agree with Fox. Maybe there is a more subtle way you can get the word out without causing a scene on the road ways. You don't want any more negative attention on that thing than you've already gotten so far from the cops. Play it cool, keep a level head. Stay calm, brother. Ride the wave, play the "I'm so sorry, I had no idea I was breaking the law" card, and just get through it as fast as possible.

Robert, i totally get why you are fighting back and it is easy for us all to encourage you to go for it. "Take it to the man". But i am worried that you are not taking care of your self.

As a person in recovery we know how dangerous it is to go down those dark roads of conflict. It would be great for you to win this battle for you and all the local scooterists, but not if it jeopardizes you.

Meeting you at T&G i could tell right away the you are a good guy with a big heart. But people with big, passionate hearts don't usually look out for there own wellbeing very well.

I'm not telling you what to do or not do. I AM saying the we your friends believe in YOU. We support YOU. And no one here wants to see you crash your self over this mess.

Please take a breath and let yourself recover a bit from the shock of all this. You have noting to prove to us. If you do what is best for you and your family and we will back you.

Thanks again for the input all! And thank you Tim for the kind words and understanding...Im trying to play it cool. I talked with my Pop yesterday, he is pretty pissed about the whole thing (he really knows how hard i have been trying). Said he is trading the scooter for a 400cc on/off road unit because if he cant go over 25MPH whats the point. I understand were he is coming from, just sucks he is "folding" so easy ! He asked me what he owes me for the pipe and top-end lol.
I said its his to do what he wants with ;D....Enjoy the bike Pop!!!
He told me pretty much the same thing some of you say. Said its too early for signs and shit(before court) and i might piss off the wrong crowd. He had a point so i taped the bottom off my sign, thats the best i can do! If they wanna take me to jail for sporting a custom bumper sticker, let em . Its not against the law to draw up your own BS and drive around with it. Yes, i know they will make shit up to stop me but O-well! I gotta do what i gotta do! BTW every other scooter/moped rider i have talked to whats a copy for their ride ! By the time im done they wont even know were the hell the signs started !!!! Cars, trucks, scooter, mopeds, airplanes, whatever i can get people to put a sign on, i will make it free of charge. Free installation too
