Do you know when your court date is yet? Oh, yes im sorry. Its not till 9-9 at 8:30 AM :stumped: Seems like a long time for a ticket. The lawyer was confused about that....He said they probably put it so far ahead so they can figure out what the heck to do with it? He couldnt believe it(the charges), he acted like i was kidding or something at first. Like he was being pranked. Lol, shit! thats how i felt at first too. Like 'Punked' was gonna jump outta the weeds or something :censored:

I have time to "shop" a bit for representation this time around so im hoping for the best too ! Im gonna talk to a few, then choose the one that i think will fight. I remember someone saying that i should hire an attorney from out of this county. What do you all think?

Our justice system works this way usually.... the more you pay a lawyer the less you pay the authorities in terms of jail time or fines. Reputation is important.

I've heard that about public defenders. Basically, you don't want the person defending you to be paid by the people prosecuting you. Not sure why the county would matter for an independent attorney. I'm not exactly up on legal issues though, so maybe there is a reason. I would suggest making sure you are looking for a specialist. Just like any other field, different lawyers are better at different things. Some specialize in traffic violations, some are good at real estate law, etc... People always say to ask around about the lawyers, but unless you know a lot of people in serious trouble with traffic violations you probably won't have a big pool of people for input in your area.

I had to fight a reckless charge when I was 17. Yeah, I was reckless, I was 17. I hired this company called "ticket busters." They are all former police officers. I paid $375. When the court day came I went in and waited. They called my case, The police officer wasn't there, the judge said he will change the date. The "lawyer" suggested all charges be dropped. The judge agreed and it was done. I have heard this company knows so many people on the force, that they call to the captain or whoever is scheduling and have the charging officers vacation time changed, so he won't be available for the court date. My latest ticket, for running a red light, I was in Korea during the court case. My father went in to represent me. The charging officer didn't show up, the judge asked to reschedule or plead guilty. My father plead guilty for me. I paid the fine but luckily I've been here for 5 years so it is off my record. I hope! The moral of the story, "Always hire the expert!"

You're welcome Robert. It's not much, but I'm sure every little bit helps. I paid my first lawyer $3,000 and he didn't do shit for me. I paid my next lawyer $2,000 and he did a hell of a lot of for me. Kept me out of jail for a year. I think the quote you got seems pretty fair. Maybe it's just location? Reputation is key in the court rooms. My lawyer just talked to the prosecutor for a few minutes before the case, and told me worked everything out for me. He told me he's known her for 20 years or so. He was also greeted by everyone in the court room when he walked in, so that made him seem pretty legit in my eyes. Maybe you should go sit in on a court morning/afternoon session and watch the lawyers work before you make up your mind. It's legal, you can sit in on court anytime you want. The same lawyers usually work the same circuit/district sessions routinely. Might help you get an idea of how they are going to represent you. I would even ask the defendants how they feel about their lawyers representation of their case, depending on how you feel about talking to random people. I hate when the courts put dates off so far. It's probably because their booked. Maybe they are booked on scooter charges At least you have a good amount of time to get yourself properly prepared.

Yep, they pulled over and arrested 80% of the local scooter community! Its like a scooter ghostland around here lately... . T/Y for the input Josh... Unfortunately i have been down this road many a time (not on scooters) , But i sure do like any input i can get ;D! The reason it was suggested by a friend (thats beat allot of cases) to get representation out of town is because it eliminates the "ties" they may have. My friend has hire "badass" lawyers from outta town that came in and cleaned house without busting anybodies balls at the golfcourse, or at church, titty bar, ya fallow. Then he heads back home to his "click" to brag about an easy victory. Of course it can all backfire in my face too. Tahts why shopping is important. It be like if i could afford a new scooter lol...I would shop, shop, shop Thanks again for the help buddy! Sorry you have 'been there' too

This is a good point you have Drawkward --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had a date put off for a realy long time and i feel it was best that way, as i keep my butt clean and the judge seen that. If you PM me robert, i'll tell you my story.. but im not going to post it (Due to good old google) and that the fact that if i did post ,it would more then likely violate %90 of Brent's form rules due to language.

I talked to Uncle yesterday... He said he was supposed to be there and they gave him the option to plead guilty and pay his $126 in fines or hire an att. and take it to court. He went the cheap route and payed the fines . I hate hearing that he had to admit guilt and pay but thats how it is sometimes . He said it is freaking nuts down there. People were actually in court for J-walking folks ! Many people!!! Talk about OVERKILL!!!! Im afraid to leave my house :paranoid:
