I like the Dello,s for that exact reason. They seem big were they need to be (bore and slide) but yet still compact enough to get into tighter spaces.
Ive been running this iron 47mm Naraku cylinder with a Malossi head since November. I soft seized it a bunch on long stretches with the stock 14mm carb but it still got some life in it. Now that the 21,s on and its running cooler i might try and freshen the cylinder/piston up?

Took some time yesterday (all day) to install a set of new engine mount bushings and taller final drive gears. I also ported the intake some. Everything went smooth until i went to ride the scoot after the gear install. Im getting allot of gear noise upon deceleration. I know some noise is normal for straight cut gears but these babies are howling and growling at me. Nothing is binding.. You can spin the wheel easy both ways. Ive tried it with and without the shim the factory primary,s had. I hope i can get it fixed because i already like the ratio change allot! Seems to fit the engine much better. Here is a pic from the best 1/8th mile run i ran the other day with the factory gears.

That's pretty much what my "straight" primaries sound like... (spacer also made no difference for me either) they won't get any better either. I just got my Derbi back on the road today and couldn't believe the racket. I wonder if replacing the helical secondaries with "straights" would help or make the noise worse? The "straights" do turn easier though.

I need to check my bearing back there though.

Thanks for the reply. I just put a new bearing on the new driveshaft when i installed the gears. Wish i could quiet em down some tho... I think i will try some Moly like john suggested.?. I run straight cut primary,s in my other scoot without all this racket. A buddy has a Kymco Cobra with straight cut gears that arent this noisy.. HHHmmm, maybe i will have to talk him into looking at his set-up?

Well, ive been riding it and its about the same. Gets peoples attention though! I noticed people in cages looking at me more as i rolled up to a 4 way, or stop light. At first im like "WTF, do i have a burger hangin out of my nose or what?". Oh, must be the gears as i smile ear to ear I did talk to my friend who owns a Cobra as well. He said he would let me pull his apart to see if, whats different about the gears.

If you can't find a way to quiet the gears, maybe a twin screw blower can be fitted to even it out? Wheeeeee... werrrrrrrr. Would be quite fitting on an '03 Cobra. Are these press in? Maybe one's not pressed in enough or too much? I dunno? Some are just destined to be noisy. I know with cars, Richmond seemed to have a knack for making noisy gears. Could just be in the design of this particular set?

Maybe?? I like the ratio so much they will be staying as long as they arent wearing anything else out. They came ready to install other than needing a drive shaft bearing. Lol, a blown 03 Cobra only makes sense.

Still have the gears in. Still about the same noise upon slowing but like i said before, the trade off in ratio is worth it on this scooter. 35MPH puts the tach just below 6,000, 40MPH at 6,500RPM. Cruising 50 it feels like the scooter is just starting to work. With this exhaust and port duration it still falls flat at about 8,500RPM, but this is over 60MPH now so i am pretty happy with it. It still gets warm on longer stretches above half throttle, or 50MPH. I went for a 30 mile ride into a small town close to here to help a cousin yesterday. Speeds averaged 45 or so and i maxed out at 61. If i held it over 50MPH for a couple miles the CHT,s would creep into the mid 300,s, 361 being the peek. It never seemed to loose any power at those temps but it still seems a bit warm to me. If i slowed down a bit it would cool down to the lower 300,s. I didnt have the nerve to just pin it and go until it stabilized or seized. Too far from home and helping family. Its getting better and running cooler but still not quite there.
