Its time for a new piston. Got it in the mail yesterday. Im debating on honing the cylinder? What do you all think? No nasty scars or scratches in it.. Just normal wear.. I suppose a fresh hone job would give it more of a "oil surface" for the oil to stick to, keeping the piston and cylinder from wearing as fast and give the rings a good start. A good hone could make my worn cylinder round again if its worn "square" or just outta round. A good honing will also remove some cylinder "meat", making it closer to worn out. Lol, i dunno?

I dunno that it's the technically correct thing to do, but I usually do a quick hone with new piston and rings. Not enough that you should be removing any meat really, but just enough to get a crosshatch back. A couple seconds.

Went ahead and honed it. New piston in, runs good so far. Had some more build-up in the ex port and header. Im going to switch oil... Had the oil pump adjusted a little outta spec (too heavy on the oil) so that didnt help. Got that right. Went from a 72 to a 76 main and removed a hose that runs off the airbox under my side panel. That provided a little more air through the box. Did a few heat cycles and short bursts of WOT around the neighborhood, then went out for a ride. Seemed kinda "tight" at first but after some miles its running better and better. Has a bit more power all the way around but I can really tell a difference in the higher RPM range. From say 40MPH up it pulls harder than it did. Still tops out around 50 so far.

I had no replies at three different locations/posts asking about these tires :dunno: Any suggestions are welcome about tires you have tried and enjoyed. Im open to anything, good or bad? Please, suggest or warn away :cheers:

I've only used Pirelli SL26s. For the great ratings they get, those are hard tires compared to the Michelins I've used. Might be a good thing to cut down on wear. My soft Boppers wear quickly, or the rear does at least. Wonder if anyone's making a scooter tire like the big bikes with a compound that is harder in the center and softer as you move toward the edges?

Pretty good deal at $96.89 shipped for the ones i need. I think those are it for me! Recommended my another scooter racer/rider.

Nice find. I might be trying out at least a rear soon. The Bopper I put on T2 in the spring is worn bad and flat already. I didn't even ride that much this season because of the tests. I think it has maybe 3,000 miles tops on it now. I prob exceed the weight limit though. lol

Ok, tires are great! Traction on dry and wet pavement has got to be the best ive felt on a scooter yet.?
I have one big problem that i cant seem to get fixed. My front wheel/tire is out of balance and bad! I, as well as many other usually just mount the tire and go. No balancing, etc.... Not this one! I know its not the wheel because it felt great with the tire it came with. I have tried gravity balancing the wheel/tire with no success. The bead looks fine. Set all the way around the wheel. To take it off and put it on the balancer it looks to be balanced pretty well. But put it on the scoot and go and it shakes. Not a steady shake, more of a "studder, studder, studder..... Smooth..... Then studder, studder" again. Never had one do that. Ive tried moving the weights on the wheel,...adding more... subtracting. It helps some, but nothing is fixing the issue totally. Its been suggested the my wheel bearings might be bad? Ive also thought about "re-clocking" the tire inside the wheel. I could mark the wheel/tire with a wax pen, then move the tire 90degrees and reseal it to the rim. Other than checking the bearing, and moving the tire im out of ideas. If that doesnt work i am going to see about replacing it.? The tire...
Any ideas?

That's odd. Bearings were what I was thinking when you said it looks fine on a balancer.
Does the tire have a white dot on it to line up with the valve stem? I'm sure you already know about that, just throwing it out. I don't even recall my Michelins, not the same kind though, having dots to indicate a light spot. I read somewhere that modern tire manufacturing has improved and it's not necessary on all tires. Even if not, seems like it cant hurt to try moving the tire 180 degrees and see what happens. If you're gonna go the the trouble of re-mounting, maybe try the wheel alone on the balancer for the hell of it or spin it on the axle. Check the condition of the axle as well.

Great points. Checked and even swapped axles Monday and that made no difference. It seemed good a true on the balancer but still changed them because i had one. I didnt see a dot to line up with the valve stem and thank you because no, i didnt know that. Yes, 180degrees. Not the 90 i said... Thanks again Burt, i mean Bret, No, dang it... Its Brent!
