Hope the new stuff works out well. I love the MultiVar clones for the minarelli, but then when you look at your stock Kymco vari and a stock minarelli vari, the minarelli is pretty crappy. The Kymco has extended guides and ramps and no stupid little nubs to limit the rollers from making it closer to the center. Doesn't take much to improve on the mina.

Got my new stuff. Although i didnt really get what i ordered :stumped: . In the description i ordered a Polini "Speed Control" vari and got what says "HI SPEED" on the box. Not sure what the difference is if any? Just dont really like the fact that i ordered one thing and got another. What can i say though. Lately ive had zero luck ordering parts I held off on the seal kit for my torque driver because my old one is still holding strong. This is what i got. Old OEM vari on the left. The Polini has about 4mm bigger OD. As well as longer, deeper ramps. Here is the new fixed half next to the OEM one. You can see wear marks in the belt face area. They are worse than the pic shows. And this is a steal pulley. Imagine the vari?! Also, you can see that the "1st gear", or takeoff, center spot in either worn bad or made different on the stock one. Stock on the right. New one on the left. Here is a short vid of a "hands on" comparison between the Naraku torsion control and Malossi,s Brent and i talked some last night and i showed him this clip. He brought up a good point when he mentioned the Malossi one might be more for the extra spring tension. The Naraku meant more for binding and the 15% or so extra tension. I think he is right. I highly recommend one of these for any scooter with the OEM rear pulley. No spring fade with heat, etc.. I went kinda against my normal routine and tuning advice. I installed all this stuff at once rather than trying one thing at a time. For instance, it would be silly to instal the new vari and fixed half. Tune it with shims and weights just right.. Then go back and install the torsion control. That would send you right back into the vari for heavier weights. Backtracking. I just put it all in. After some tuning runs i ended up with 6.9g Polini rollers and 1.2mm worth of shim at the drive boss. I also replaced my clutch springs with a fresh set of Naraku reds after the first test run. This was a much needed replacement. I was starting to get a funny takeoff and vibration. I thought it was mostly due to the worn vari. After installing the new vari the problem seemed more pronounced than before. It would rev like normal, then kinda bog and surge forward like the shoes just grabbed too hard? I put the new clutch springs in and it all went away. Good, smooth takeoff and no more funny vibration. I didnt ride much last night so i dont really have any major top speed gains to report. I rode about 2 miles and was really happy with it. First time i can report cruising and top-end RPM,s dropping by around 1000 but yet it seems to pull just as hard or harder than before.?. Maybe i had more issues than i thought? Only thing i can figure is that is was slipping? Then again, im sure that much slippign would destroy a belt in no time. I dunno? Im gonna go ride :riding:

Thanks for the info. I dunno that the Malossi TC is supposed to be for adding tension. Their advertising says this...
"Transmission shifting can be negatively influenced by twisted contra springs, so Malossi decided to eliminate this problem with the Malossi torsion control, a new coated plastic seat.
This way the contra spring is not placed directly on the torque driver reducing the twisting effect to a minimum.
Furthermore, there are less vibrations on the torque driver at high revolutions so you can enjoy more linear gear changing and smoother power delivery."
It just seems to me that in reality the only difference I'm noticing is that the added seat height might bump up RPM just slightly. From all the messing around I did not long ago with P49, I couldn't tell a difference with or without the Malossi TC in shifting or spring fade. The only thing it seemed to be doing for me was bumping up the RPM 100-200.
It certainly looks like the ball bearing units are the only way to go if you wanna be sure the spring never binds up. Let us know if you still see no spring fade on a long ride. That would make it worth the money for sure. It sucks to tune something and then have it fade and end up out of tune any time you ride more than 10 miles.

They both helped in the Mina and Kymco engines ive used them in. Ive tried both torison controls and they both worked but the Naraku is much better when it comes to downshifting at any speed and getting right back into the power.

After a long ride and a bunch of vari tuning, weights and shims i just wasnt getting the results ide like. It seemed to be loosing power slowly but surly over time (about a year). I was hoping a fresh CVT tune would wake it up. I know that sounds silly but it still help RPM even though the power seemed to be getting worse. After the new stuff and all ways of tune i came to the conclusion that it may be time for a top-end inspection. I was thinking yesterday on my way back from a friends place in a small town about 15miles from here. "man, it seems quieter than the last time i made this trip?" The exhaust note seemed different as well. Not a whole lot, just a tad quieter. After talking to my son, that ofter rides with me following he seemed to agree that it didnt sound as loud, or "2T" as it should. I went out this AM and pulled the top-end for the first time   :nana: . Yaaa! I broke my record! I rode this scoot for 3 years without touching the top-end. This is what i saw as expected from a previous Cobra with the same issue. :help: Now thats not gonna provide peak performance is it? The first thing to want to blame is the oil. Well, i got this scooter used and who knows the oil that was burned in it before? Ive decided the run it awhile after clean-up. When i get a new piston/rings i will see how much buildup it has when i install the piston. Everything else looked great! Look at the piles Not as nice as it could be, but much better! It fired up but i havent riden it yet . Came in to cool off. Now im ready :riding:

Quite a chunk there. I'd blame 3 years of riding more than the oil itself. 3 years is a long time not to take a 2T apart and check it. Maybe you could find something better, but I don't think any oil isn't gonna give pretty substantial buildup in that time period.

The Polini Speed Control variator is the older version and the HI SPEED version does not seem to be as high a quality. I seem to remember that they are made in a different country

Ahhhh! ;D To have the power and 50+MPH back when needed is soooo nice! :riding:
Good point Brent. 3 years is good and im sure its never been apart. By the looks of it all anyway. I ended up leaving the head gasket out.
The vari box said made it Italy, but who really knows right.? :dunno:

I remember all the old 2T street bikes had a section in the shop manuals called "decarbonizing",I guess it was put there for a reason??

Yep, suppose so.. Might be a good thing for the tech section?
Lol, Brent,s never went that many miles to let carbon build-up w/o a teardown, or mod of some sort

3 YEARS with no rebuild or even having a look? wow!
do you do a lot of mileage on it or not ride it much as you have other bikes?

My mileage is back up to better than ive had on it. I was able to get 80miles out of the last fill-up. cool, although i meant do you put a lot of miles on it? as in is there a large number on the odo? or has it only done 500 miles in the 3 years youve had it because you have other scoots to ride?

I ride the wheels off it and trade for a new set For the same scoot that is :chinese: :spin: Im sure some ride more..? Im also sure most ride less.. My factory odo has a 'large number' of kilo,s yes. My Koso odo has close to 5,000miles on it from this scoot.

I seem to remember that they are made in a different country Ive been bickering back and forth with RP on this subject. I really dont like the fact that i was sent something different that listed. Not really a huge deal as im happy with the vari. Just the point, ya know? Of course RP acts like its the exact same part . Ive been emailing and sending pics to prove em wrong
