Hi folks glad to be here. Looking to meet some new like minded folks and gain some scooter knowledge! I currently have a Tao Tao 50 that I'm doing some minor upgrades/repairs to remove some of the not so great factory parts. Thanks for having me!

Ha ha talk about an warm and friendly welcome!! 2TDave I am in White Springs about 15 minutes north of lake city. niz76 lol no I haven't made my down to that area as of yet I should have bought a scooter a long time ago. My dad got me interested as he always talked about his scooter and all the mods he did to it. Although it was about 40 years ago and he lived in England and had a Lambretta 150 I believe. Luckily he passed on a bit of the hands on stuff and I'm ok with a wrench as I am slowly finding that the majority of the factory parts on my Tao Tao are lets just say not the best. I'm in an I can run mode but it will not idle on its own. I have it parked in my garage/shed so I can take a look at it. I initially found a crack in the fuel line and the air line so I fixed those and still a few issues. I have a list of supposedly common issues with my particular model and was going to do them all tomorrow. Would you fine folks mind looking at the list? I jump into things with both feet!! First replace the fuel and vacuum line with clear yellow tubing. Search wise it says 3/16” clear tubing for fuel and vacuum lines so I am assuming that means id not od. Next it says the diaphragm from the factory is pretty bad (I have not looked) that the fuel and vacuum line go into and should be replaced. Next change the fuse on the battery to a blade type fuse. I know how to do that but is it necessary? I already bought the NGK plug (not the Iridium one) and will be replacing that. I have so many people mention a BBK kit. Forgive my newbie status but I am not sure that is necessary but would like to know. Also getting the yellow type cone fuel filter with paper element. This scooter is a daily driver for me as my job is 2 miles from home and I live in the sticks. I do have a perfectly functioning car but you can't beat two wheels. I would love some more low end power and all around power. I was also thinking about front foot pegs. Eventually, I would like to switch exhaust systems as it seems really restricted. Did I forget to mention I have ADHD and am a bit OCD on stuff lol

I'd add checking and adjusting the valves. All else sounds about right but I don't know 4ts like others here.

Hi and welcome! if you're thinking about a BBK, dont go over 80cc. The crank is not balance for it. Variator and a clutch/bell kit will help you also. But nothing sounds as good as an EL CHEAPO free flow pipe from EBay.

3/16" is the ID not OD of the hose. Some of the vacuum hoses are smaller. I agree that you should stick with 47mm (72cc) if you get a BBK. Cranks are known to fail pretty quickly sometimes with the 50mm+ stuff. BBKs give a nice boost in power and make hills and wind a lot easier to deal with. I just welded footpegs on mine, you can check it out in the Builds section. I really like the comfort, but solid pegs aren't a great idea on these. I had to cut them way back so they hit around the same time the center stand scrapes on turns... but when a solid peg hits it bites in and you could crash. Folding pegs that would fold up if you lean would be better, then you just gotta watch your feet on hard turns or mount them higher up. Mine are a couple inches lower than the floorboard to give me more leg room. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/6365/project-taotao-stroke-experiences-upgrades?page=49

Thank you again everyone! I was looking on ebay for a straight pipe but didn't quite find one. By chance does someone have a link? I will definitely look into the BBK kit more to see what all it entails. Does anyone have a certain parts person they go through that I might take a look at?

I'm not sure if there are full length straight pipes sold. The closest to that would be just using a header. It's going to be very loud though. HERE IS A FULL EXHAUST with muffler that would be a little more reasonable for sound output. Some like the bare header/straight pipe, I don't and I think it draws even more unwanted attention.

Thank you so much 90GTVert! I definitely do not want a straight header,I am mainly interested in a performance exhaust. I am working on my 50 today and am in the process of changing out a few things, plug, fuel and vacuum line, the basics. I have also been wondering about an upgrade for my ignition system. At the moment I can cruise an average of about 32-35 mph. I would really like to increase that to 40+ mph if possible. Once I have the basics covered I will move on to a few more advanced items. Thank you again for your help!
