After viewing 90GTVert post on that Sigma bicycle computer, I'm thinking of buying a couple to have as a more accurate speed reference for riding. Though there are some others out there I see around the same price that are back lit. My riding would be day and night so that would be a concern and I'd hate to go nuts trying to make my own LED gauge lights. Anyone ever use any of the cheaper ones? Kind of like this one for instance? This is only an example, I'm looking to find an inexpensive back lit one if possible so I can buy two without costing too much. Actually I'd say this one is close to what I'd like to get. A cheap temporary fix to the speedo that's WAYYY off on my M1 and my VX50. Note the speedo you linked only goes to 99kph (62mph)..Thats the trouble with most bike speedo's,but the Sigma goes waaay up there, the crotch rocket guys like them,Ive seen mine over 130mph on an old Honda VF750,sooo stick with Sigma and add a little LED lamp above it..

Hah! I nearly crapped my pants hitting 50mph on my VX and I don't think I'll get it much faster than that without a gear swap, once I get it stable that is. Besides, these are just temporary. For $6 each I won't complain. And I think it's 99kph/mph that is. But I'll see when I get them. I just want to not have to lug the GPS around to watch my speed all the time. It looks funny on the bike. If I don't get a Vapor kit in the future, I'll grab a Sigma if I see these don't go up to speed. But thanks though for looking into them dude, these are just to occupy me in between all the other crap I ordered. I also ordered two Trail Tech CHT gauges for both bikes while I was at it. Someone really needs to hold my wallet for me. *sigh*

Will one of these bike speedo's work with the small tires on our scoots? It would be nice to have a cheap, waterproof, accurate way to know our speed without a gps or cell phone.

Billy Well both my bikes have 12" tires, same size on the fronts. My concern is going to be getting the magnet to stick to the rim. Otherwise I don't see why they wouldn't? From 0-9999 CM (that's like what, a monster truck tire?) I figured for the price I couldn't go wrong. These are what I ended up ordering. For the price, if they break or are crap I can't complain.

So I took a ride last night to a friends. It reached 47.9MPH and then there was an accident ahead so I crawled for the last mile. But holy crap, almost 48!
My friend wanted to ride it and see what the difference was since I put the BBK on. He said it rode nice and all. As he came back though the first time (He had to ride it twice lol) I noticed my brake light was out. No tail light/brake light driving at night is not cool. I tried looking for screws to remove the back housing to take the bulb out. There are none. By the looks of it, you have to remove the body panels to get to it? I tried removing the rear fender and that didn't look like it was going anywhere. WTF?!?! Really?
I started hoping it was a fuse. But aside from my front lights working, which work off of AC, the dash lights were working too. I inspected the fuse anyways, it was fine. I went back to looking to take the lens cover off, it was dark and it was getting late. Finally something in my head went "DING!" and I said "Let me check the connections. BAM! The connection from the harness for the rear lights was disconnected. I went to connect them back and realized wow, that's a tight fight. The wires barely reach each other. So it looks like that's a mod I'm going to have to do. I will see if I either have to remove the gas tank to relocate the wire or if I have to put some sort of extension on. It's the only one of the harness that's so tight, kind of annoying if you ask me. So I make sure it was snapped in as best as it could be and rode home. The wind was nuts so I couldn't get above 42mph on the way home. Booo! I also tried putting the snorkel back on without the little screen on it. Nope, it didn't like that.
That was fun.

So tonight I decided I was going to do the oil change and downjet to a #90. Oil change was smooth as always. I went to take the carb out for the jet change and floop, the hose coming from the airbox popped off the airbox? My first thought was "Oh !!!" So I finished the jet change, put the carb back in and took the airbox off. I brought the parts in and realized that the hose is a grooved fit and can be put back in. Only.... The "glue" that was around it was a little under the weather. So I crammed it back in and smeared some liquid nails around it for good measure. It's in there good, as long as I don't gorilla the hose like I have been it should be fine. The liquid nails is more for preventing leaks if there could be any even with that tight fit. I thought of silicone, but the liquid nails was closer. It's ok, it's starting to rain tonight anyways so no riding. I did however manage to loosen the rear fenders a little and I re-routed that part of the harness for the brake/tail light. I moved it more to the side of the tank but under a rail and part of the CDI. It gave me about an inch or so more of play, plenty to relieve the stress so I'm happy now that I don't have to worry about that. Whew.

I put the #90 in and slapped the airbox back on. It's good, it will just cure overnight. I also removed the semi-restrictive part of the snorkel that is supposed to hold the screen it. Seemed like as I'm going down the road with the snorkel off, a blast of air would sort of do a "Ram Air" effect and throw the mix off. It's much more stable with the snorkel unrestricted and facing away from the direct jet of air.
So going down to the 90 lost me some speed. So to not go crazy and do too many things, I decided at this point I'm down to WOT adjustments so I bumped the needle up one notch on the clip. It has one more to go. It didn't seem to help. I'm stuck at 41.4mph now. Though it sounds like my RPM aren't getting to max. I can't tell because the Tach I have on there doesn't have a light and it's dark out. So I guess if I get time tomorrow or this weekend, I'll lighten the sliders by .5g and see if that helps. I just know the #95 was too rich. Hell, it still smells like it's running a little rich to me. I think. *shrugs* I do know that the engine is stable as hell though and there's no hesitation or bogging at all. It just doesn't want to move. I hear the RPM ramp up on takeoff, then it shifts and only goes so high. I packed it in for the night. I'm tired and have two more days of work THEN work on the car this weekend. This month is really going to either suck or be really awesome for me.

So I got two things in the mail today. The choke cable, jets and needles for the Dell clone carb came in from Treatland. No tacos or porcelain figures or anything. Booo. Also the throttle cable I ordered was only a 50", my bad on that one. It's hella short so I think I'll keep that as a backup spare or if I want to make a throttle foot pedal maybe? Who knows.
The Bar End mirrors came in too. They look great, sturdy and not cheap feeling. I'm not sure I'll do anything tonight, I'm super tired and have a long ass day ahead of me tomorrow as well. The M1 needs some tuning still. I thought of putting the #95 jet in but honestly without a CHT I have no idea what it's doing. It has the 90 still with the stagger of 4 and 5g sliders. I lost speed and RPM, can't tell how much since it was dark. I may just take it for a ride to record the RPM now while there's light out. I dunno. I could throw the 4g sliders in and see how she does with the 90 jet in it real quick I suppose. We will see.
More pieces and stuff to come over the weekend. The Bike speedometers and the CHT gauges should be here by Monday. I also ordered some more fuel filters and 20ft of 3/16 Tygon fuel line too.

Are you still running the stock contra spring?

Are you still running the stock contra spring? Yeah, the clutch is still original. The thing barely has 700 miles on it. Don't worry, I already thought about that. But one thing at a time I have to do. I changed everything on the Baccio too fast I think and that's probably what has been screwing with me. I know what you mean though, a tighter contra would bring the RPM up. Takeoff isn't much of an issue really, the thing has great pickup as it is, the top end is my goal right now.

Well I was gonna say, I got a Hoca yellow spring and it's softer than the stock so I switched back to stock. AM spring is good for up shifting but bad for down shifting. If you do a lot of town riding like me I like to down shift faster so I can get back on the throttle faster. That's why I went with a little heavier roller weight. :2cents:

If you do a lot of town riding like me I like to down shift faster so I can get back on the throttle faster. That's why I went with a little heavier roller weight. Well town riding yes, but there is also the chance I'd like to take a nice long ride which having the top speed would help on. Around here, going 35 will get you a gang of a-holes on your tail. 40+ and they aren't as bad. I refuse to ride the shoulder everywhere because down here we are street legal riders and have every right as a car. If it's a 2 lane road then I'll go to the shoulder to let cars pass if need be. But I'd rather be going with traffic as much as possible. The other night I had it up to almost 48, it felt pretty stable actually. I didn't even know I was going that fast till I looked down. So maybe dropping the weight a half gram or putting a stiffer spring in would help. But how stiff of a spring is my question. If you're saying the yellow (I think is 1.5k) was softer than stock, than stock may as well be 2k. I have to check the vari and see what it's doing at that speed. But I know that the belt was using all of the room, it's just that my RPM dropped with the smaller jet. I'm going to check 90GTVert post on jet comparisons again and see what his numbers showed. But again, this is hard to judge without knowing exactly what affect the jet has on temp and all too so I have to be careful till the CHT arrives.
