I did not see any cooling shroud around the cylinder. Without the fan cooling shroud it would be like running a car engine without radiator fluid. If that engine was also run without oil the best fix would be a length of rope to use the engine as an anchor for your rowboat.

Fox as per usual you and I are on the same page and Franken took my role as rhe "mean old man" speaking the hard truth. But credit where credit is due we all do what we can.I can find TDC on a tiny single easier than I can find my car keys in the morning. But I can no more post a vid of a clapped out motor running than I can run a foot race.Bring in the mysterious mechanic and replace the entire top end with shrouds, and hope everything else stays together.

It's not a 'role' for me. I AM a mean old man. Ask anyone... I make LOTS of stupid decisions.

We're not all born with the powerful knowledge of the GY6. Like FrankenMech, we've all made really stupid decisions. It's learning from them and moving on that counts. Just take this as a learning experience. I bought my scooter for $100 hoping I could do what I wanted to with it. I was lucky enough to get a good engine, but had to replace the whole upper engine, carb, belt, completely go through and rewrap my wiring harness, change coil, cdi, turn signals, etc.. It's been an experience, but a frustratingly fun one.

I can do pretty much everything to a scooter besides install a bbk. The only thing that gets me is the position of the rings on the piston

Look at the difference. The exhaust valve seal is all burnt and black and the intake seal is nice and clean.. The rings actually look perfect. I'm gonna reposition them. I just watched a good how to video and know I understand

Notice the burnt crispy oil.. That's after I cleaned most of it off Notice the intake valve doesn't have that

The intake valve doesn't get as hot as the ex valve. Dump some water in the ports to see if the valves leak. I have seen scooter engines that were run on low oil for too long and the whole cam and rockers were covered in that black sludge. Had to completely rebuild the entire engines on those ones. When I took the oil drain plug out it came out in clumps.

All of that black is due to the engine overheating due to little or no oil and no cooling shroud. I hope that engine is ok, but, I would not bet on it. If it is, then these little engines are tougher than we ever thought, ha ha. I hope it works out ok for you.

I just watched a good how to video and know I understand Bud, that's not the intake and exhaust valve seals. That's the intake and exhaust port gaskets. The intake and exhaust valve seals are inside the head..

That piston don't look too good. What's with the X on the crown?
If you ever have that guy over to help you again, Ask him if he can remove the valves from the head so you can inspect them and the seats and also the valve guide seals that I posted a picture of before.

I was looking at that x too. If you zoom in, it appears that those areas have been melted and the metal is gone. I'll bet that piston is no longer round either. My guess is it has seen some very high temps. There also appears to be scorch marks on the piston sides in some areas but not others which leads me to think it is out of round. Bill
