The cooling shroud is basically just 2 plastic halves that cover the top and bottom of your cylinder so that the air from your cooling fan is forced over and around your cylinder head to keep your engine from over heating when your scoot is not moving.

The piston skirt is very worn. All the machine marks that help keep a film of oil in place are worn off like an old piston that has seen many miles. I don't know about the X-mark but it looks like chunks out of the edge around the top land are missing. Is that aluminum particles on the chamfer or carbon? The oil control ring gaps are not very far apart either. I don't know what the ring gap placement specs are for a GY6 though.
Some pistons are not round on purpose, but again, I don't know the specs for a GY6.

Sorry about the late reply on the cooling shroud topic. I didnt read the rest of the posts before responding !! Lmao It happens, don't worry about it. I sometimes find a question that I actually know the answer to and, in my excitement, fail to notice that I am on page 1 of a 3 page topic, ha ha. Stuff happens. Bill

Renegade here is some advice.Remove that poor piston and put all the top end parts in a box. Then get the mystery mechanic to check the big end bearing for wear.If he is not available, plenty of video tutorials out there.Make sure there is absolutely no up down movement of the rod,(which I doubt). If the rod is tight take your box to a scrapyard and sell the top end for scrap. Then apply that money to the purchase of a complete top end, cam, rockers and all. Then install kit,I'd recommend a 72 to put no further stress on the rod. Then install cooling shrouds and hope for the best.In answer to your ring inquiry on a 4 stroke it is best not to have the end gaps aligned, make sure they are installed right side up in the appropriate groove.Easy peasy. If the big end bearing has failed (likely) you do have a dandy anchor.

I can do pretty much everything to a scooter besides install a bbk. The only thing that gets me is the position of the rings on the piston
