I think he used the word "new" implying it's new to that scooter but it's a used variator in better shape than the other one.

Actually it was pretty new. The scooter with the bbk that is broken down only was driven about 200-300 miles before it broke down. The variator and clutch were replaced the same time as the bbkbwas installed so it is fairly new. Definitely newer than the wore out one I had lol

The vari was replaced the same time as the bbk. I'm pretty sure a vari with 200-300 miles is better than the one I took out that has seen over 12k miles.. Pardon my realism
