The one on my scoot had 4,000 miles on the original variator (and belt and clutch) before I changed it out. Of course, you are moving a lot more weight with your trike.

Hey guys im a bigger guy and was wondering what the best setup for variator weights are. I travel about 8miles to and from work with one pretty large hill going over railroad tracks. My speed is normally between 30 and 35 mph at the bottom but by the top im down to 20ish mph (per scooter speedo) im looking into bbk from scooters to go based out of Grand Rapids Michigan. I've been searching and watching YouTube videos on variators clutches and belts and wouldnlike a second opinion before I start buying the upgrades. Thanks for any information guys.

By a good BBK and a tuning weight kit. You'll probably need to upjet your carb 5-10% also. Start with .5 gram lighter than stock and see were the sweet spot is for you, then buy a good set of weights to run permently. I've got a 2T Zuma with a cheap BBK and a touring pipe. I can climb some pretty step hills around here at 30-35Mph. I top out around 42-44mph on flat ground.
