Hello. My belt broke again on my scooter. I wanted to try to fix it my self and i wanted to know what tools would i need besides an impact wrench? Also i wanted to know how can i tell which size belt would i need without actually removing the current one in there until i get a wrench to do so? Its the second time my belt broke in a couple of months so they telling me the clutch or the variator may need to be fixed. Anybody? Thanks in advance!

What kind of scooter is it? I have 2 different clutch holders and 3 different variator holders. 3 different tools to remove the CVT covers after I get too them. Tell us the engine and we can help you guess at what belt is in there.

I looked under the kickstart lever and it read jk1p39qma. I'm still learning about these scooters so pardon my ignorance. But a youtube i seen said that i can identify what type of engine i have by looking under the kickstart lever. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MqQqIT7MGY

You shouldn't be going through belts that quick. Pull the cvt cover and see if anythings wrong.

Maybe someone can confirm this: 1p39QMA OEM belt seems to be 729-18-30
Pop your cover off and see what you have

You should get a variator holder and clutch holding tool, both cheap from Partsforscooters.com. You should also get a good torque wrench to put it all back together, using an impact gun can strip threads. When I say good I mean avoid the Haborfreight torque wrenches they aren't always very accurate.

Ok thanks for the help. So is 75 dollars a good price for someone to fix my belt?

Ok thanks for the help. So is 75 dollars a good price for someone to fix my belt? for less then that, you can do it yourself, plus get the tools,it's easy also get a gates premium Powerlink belt, and you need to fix the underlying issue

My guess is the variator is hung up on the pin,or the rear clutch pulley is hung up, maybe the torque driver isn't sliding. If the variator is hung up,do NOT get the glixal variator, the bushing is steel painted to look like bronze

I had got the guy to throw a new belt on since i couldn't get the tools just yet, but he said the rollers and the variator needs to be replaced. I figured i may can get another week or two until i vet paid to get that fixed. How long do yall thin the belt will last?

Why are you throwing money away, when this is so easy to fix? There are all kinds of youtube videos, plus all kinds of technical info on here, why waste money on the belt, and installation ,when the issue is still there?

It can be intimidating, but you can certainly learn to work on the CVT.
My first thought is, what belts have been going on there? If someone is using cheap belts, then they will continue to break. Use a Bando (my first choice when available) or Gates belt. Don't use no-name Chinese stuff. They are junk and they just don't last.
If you've got an impact and a socket set, disassembly won't be too tough. Don't reassemble with an impact unless you have a torque stick rated around 30-35ft-lbs or you can strip threads. Many use a holding tool and an torque wrench for tightening.

Also whenever the variator is bad, besides breaking the belt, how do i know ( by the way it rides) if its that or the clutch. Cause its kind of loud and slow picking up speed
